I really do not understand the amount of criticism that the boy is taking on this site and sometimes on a match day.

He is still young and learning and will only get better with the fans on his side, he knows when his final ball is not good enough as his head drops and he beats himself up about it and he needs the fans to sing his name and build his confidence not sap it out of him with negativity.

I have been to every game so far and other than a poor cross every now and again his performances have been first class.

I am no expert, played for local football club, coach kids and under 19 football now so can form a educated opinion from my own experiences.

If you watch closely every time Redmond has the ball in and around the penalty area he draws not one defender but two or three towards him, this then allows the rest of the midfield to find the space to hurt the now weakened centre on the pitch. Redmond may not of scored or had as many assists as we all expect him to have, but his contribution in those goals can be seen a mile away if you are looking at the whole situation and not just at the final ball that creates the goals.

I for one am extremely happy with every players performance since wolves and cant see any of the new signing or injured players getting in to the starting 11 for now.

Totally agree zeller, particularly the highlighted bit, but I´m afraid that has always, and will always be a problem for a certain percentage of supporters, but he seems like a pretty tough lad to me, so I´ve got no real fears that he´ll crack under the pressure.

Strange though, that whatever Josh M tries, is greeted with appreciation and encouragement, even if he fails, while Redmond appears to get the opposite treatment.
 
Redmond is undoubtedly talented but I think you have to recognise that he is a frustrating player to watch. He's definitely improving this season. He cuts in and shoots less which I think is good as the defenders are less likely to know what to expect and his passing game has definitely improved. My issue is that at times he wants to go beat 1 player, then another 2 when he could be playing the ball around, getting his head up and running into the space that his pace opens up. Also, it probably doesn't help that he is on the left side usually. I think fans would warm to him much more if he kept producing runs and crosses like he did against the Cherries, than cutting inside and blasting one into the stands. He probably hasn't developed as quickly as many would have liked. I really think this season will be big for him. If he can get his head straight and knows his place in the team is being challenged then hopefully he will push on, get a few more assists and chip in with the goals.

I can't say I'd keep the same set up that we currently have, something Supers has already discussed to death, and I agree pretty much with him. It just doesn't quite feel like it's clicking. Whether players need to be dropped, positions need to be switched or roles just need to be more clearly defined I don't know, but there's definitely room for improvement.

Not defending anyone who is criticising Redmond, but he has been in the team for a year now (I actually don't think it helped him much last season that we relied on him so much) so they have seen Redmond slice crosses and shoot high and wide plenty of times where as Josh is only really breaking through now and he is a local lad so the fans are obviously going to be more supportive. If Josh only scores once over the next year I bet there will be far more moaning about him taking on a shot from 20 yards.

Sorry, but I still don´t think there´s any real excuse for treating one, one way, and another, another, and certainly being local or not, shouldn´t come into it, however natural that might be.
 
I´m sure your reasoning is sound, Colk, but they are both at the age now when they need all the encouragement and support they can get, if they are going to take the next step. Be a shame if they joined the scrapheap of talented youngsters who failed to live up to their potential.
 
Agreed. I hope to see lots of rotation this season and I expect Redmond not to be relied upon like he was last season. He has a bright future, if he finds that end product this season then we'll do well to hold on to him next summer, no matter the division we're in.

I think one of Redmond's biggest problems, is that due to injuries to E Bennett and Pilks, he played more games than he should have last season. I've seen flashes of his improvement this season and he's passing the ball more, but often not accurately enough.

Do we stick with him or give give Josh a chance - a difficult one, but I'd stick with NR for league games and start with JM in the league cup, so let's hope we dispose of Shrewsbury, so he can get more chances to show what he can do!!!!!

The standard is also lower. But yes, I do agree we should try and be a bit more patient with him.
 
There was a lot of talk about Josh Murphy after the Crawley game and he was running things for us but really we weren't very good (a midfield constructed entirely of wide players will do that). His final ball was good, helps that he's left footed but a lot of his play seemed very naive and he at this point is not a better footballer than redmond, he deserves time on the pitch because he has the potential to develop in the an excellent footballer but right now redmond is better and this year we need to think fairly short term.
 
Redmond has made 126 senior appearances, Murphy's got 16. Based on that, I don't think it's fair to treat them in the same way.

Murphy is only just beginning to find his feet at this level, having really only just broken through in the last 6 months. He's going to be a raw talent and requires patience. Whilst still young, Redmond is much more established at this level. How much longer do you have to give him before you expect to see progress? That's not to excuse booing him and making him uncomfortable, but at some point in the not so distant future he's got to start living up to his undoubted potential if he ever wants to be a real top player.

That said, I do think he's been better this season, and certainly don't think we should be giving up on him yet. I just don't think he should be held to the same standards as Murphy is, we should be expecting more of him.
 
Agreed DH, despite their similar age they are at different points in their development. Redmond has more match craft. He plays better with others and feels like a better part of a whole.
Josh probably has a touch more flare and us much more two footed which makes his less predictable. (Neither are close to how predictable Snoddy was though.)
Currently I'd say their development stages mean redmond should start around 3 games for every 1 josh does with regular cameos for josh in other games.
I really hope we play a less youthful team against Shrewsbury, we have a lot of new 1st teamers but josh has to start.
Personally I'm excited by both players and I hope we get to reap the benefits of having them before they move up.
 
I think the fact Josh has scored three goals already in only 16 appearances compared to just the one from Redders - despite having far, far more efforts - might have something to do with it as well.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that twice in 2 games that Redmond has been on the RIGHT wing and provided a pass which led to a goal???
 
What is that all about Dave? I think Redmond is coming on well, but Josh is a new hero for the 'young ones'. Like others have said, Nathan is well grounded and will let his football do the talking!
