I think all of us have "doubts" about HR's appointment to a certain extent.

I have less doubts about 'arry than I did about Warnock and Hughes.

As said in a previous thread I think "arry will be the best manager we've had since Gerry Francis (first Premier League season).

I am one of the doubters and it's up to 'arry to prove myself and other doubters wrong, but I will get behind the team as normal.

HR would have used the resources available much more sensibly had he been in charge in the summer and I have no doubt Dawson and Defoe would have been driving us forward had that been the case. But then a blind man could have seen where our weaknesses are. I don't believe he can fix it now however. It will be January before he can tackle the ludicrous gaps in our squad by which time it will be too late barring a miracle.

He was never offered Liverpool and turned down Villa because they have a mental chairman.

Mentioned on another thread that I will be very interested to see the length of his contract. I would honestly like to see him get a 7 month contract with a large bonus for keeping us up. I would have no probs with that. Harry is a Prem manager so he won't want to go down to the champ with us should we go down. I think he will want one last top job and I don't see us as being that. Bottom line I don't want him to get a long contract.
As for the short term, i think we do need a Harry type manager. Our players are lifeless and almost look disinterested. I do think Harry has the motivational skills that we do badly need now. Joe Jordan is a most. Some of our players quite simply need a serious kick up the ass.
Think we now have given ourselves the best chance to stay up although i think the decision was a week late.
Long term I want Martinez. Young hungry manager who is apparently very good tactically.

Difficult to say until we have an idea of the contract.

For me Harry fits the bill til the end of the season, motivates and creates a team spirit very much what we need, he will also help attract players. however, I have the feeling his only with us because of his companies financial difficulties and he would have preferred to be at a more prestigious club which bothers me. I really don't see the Adel situation being a problem.

While not my first choice, short term he is just what the doctors ordered and definitely not unhappy however long term I have my reservations, having said that it would be a brave man that didn't take him on full time if he does keep us up.

I will put aside my thoughts on his dodgy dealings etc and I'll be backing him 100% for the foreseeable future.

One things for certain. There are eight games until the opening of the window. Now is the chance for Harry to show his skills by doing considerably better than Hughes with a slightly inferior squad (having lost AJ and Zamora to injury). It's gonna be fascinating - for reasons good and bad, there cannot be a more interesting team to support than QPR in all the English leagues

Edit - forgot Brix's original question and better get off the fence. Yes, I think Harry will keep us up. He did well for Spurs and not bad either for Pompey. He's been tried and tested in a way Hughes has not, and he'll get the players working for him. I'm optimistic.

Depends on what problem we're looking for a solution to. If we're purely looking for someone to give us a fighting chance of avoiding relegation this season, well then he's a good option. Of course he will be looking to strengthen the squad in January (couple of defenders, couple of strikers) and another fifty grand keeper to keep poor Greenie company on the bench. Again, because we're fire-fighting we can't be too choosy about who we get in in terms of age, re-sale value etc. January is usually a fallow period for quality young players. With the best will in the world we may be too deep in it to survive this season despite the manager's best efforts. Only time will tell.

Where does that leave project QPR? Some may say it doesn't matter, relegation is the biggest disaster that could befall us so it must be survival at all costs. We must patch up the squad in whatever way we can and slug it out for survival.

But is this type of survival not just twirling around the merry-go-round, bringing us back to where we were this time last year? Sticking plaster solutions which inevitably unravel as the panic buys turn out to be not quite what we were hoping they might be.

Harry is not going to be here for long enough to progress the club to where I would like to see it.

You are good value flyer :)

'We must educate people,' Martinez told the Daily Mirror. 'In five or six years, we [Wigan] reap the benefits. Maybe I won’t be there then.

'But this is not why I stayed, when Liverpool made me an offer.'

He added: 'I stayed because my chairman is unique.

    If I may join in...

If I was an R's fan my real concern would be if more money is spent in January so 'Arry can get some players he wants to work with, and it doesn't ensure in survival. I think he can get better performances and more signs of commitment from a large proportion of the current squad but it remains to be seen if it is enough or not.

I would have some concern about the football side of it, but would worry more about the financial side. Not so much the transfer fees but the wages. Is it sustainable outside the PL for more than 1 season if it came to that? Probably not, so the potential for losing a substantial load more money become a real possibility. As wealthy as some of the board members are are they prepared to keep spending to sort out the mess that has been created in the last year?

What I see happening in January is a partial exodus of what he believes is deadwood to make way for 'his' players and I think it leaves the club with two options of which neither are ideal.

    1. Just get rid for free and cut the losses to make way.
    2. Hold out and see if some money can be recouped, but this is risky because perhaps no-one wants them or if they do it's too late to get the right replacements.

After what Hughes has given us, I am just happy that he's gone and that anyone else than him is Manager for now.

Thai, probably not a popular view here, but if I had to choose between the way we do business and the way you guys do business, I would go with your way every time!

Personally I’ve always liked Uncle Arry. The guy evidently has trouble reading and can’t do sums, but he knows his football and to me he represents one of the last of a dying breed of old school “gaffers”.

I’ve always held a strong dislike of Tottenham, for which there are several reasons, but one of the strongest is the trauma I suffered in my formative years watching the 82 FA Cup Final replay….. And that’s not even to mention Chas and Dave rubbing their cor-blimey cockney-flavoured salt into the wound on the TV and radio for several weeks afterwards!

However, when Arry was at the Spurs helm I found it annoyingly difficult to continue disliking them. Thankfully, since they did the decent thing and replaced him with The Pranny From Porto I no longer have this difficulty. I find it extremely easy to dislike them again. Which is a relief, I can tell you!

There’s just something about his old fashioned, no nonsense, lazy-eyed demeanour that inspires good will and warmth. I just can’t help but like him. I think a lot of people who’ve followed footie for any length of time feel the same, and that’s exactly what our club needs right now. Some goodwill and warmth.

There’s been a hell of a lot of negativity around the club lately. That goes way back to Faulin-gate, the Warnock sacking, the Barton side-show, and then Muamba’s Bolton going down instead of us last season, and that downbeat feeling seems to have continued this season with our negative tactics (e.g. playing one up front at home) and stroppy ill disciplined players. We seem to have gone from being a club for which neutrals had a soft spot, to being a club which is generally disliked. I’d like to see that change, and I think Arry could be a great catalyst for this.

Also, I think a lot of players feel the same warmth and loyalty to him, seemingly raising their game when they play under him, and several following him from club to club. That can only be a good thing for us.

For all his professionalism, no one can ever say that Mark Hughes inspired warmth, and judging by our performance this season his players certainly don’t seem to raise their game for him.

Uncle Arry is a real football man and will do an honest job for us. Just make sure he sticks to the dugout and he’s not left looking after the accounts.

I feel a lot better about this than I did last Sunday.
I suspect it is a short term solution but I feel we have just significantly increased our chances of staying up.

By the way, has it been confirmed that he actually is our manager?

i don't have any doubts about redknapp. he would be my number 1 choice considering who's available.
what i think harry does well is he gets the basics of football right. we can bang on about financial stuff, i personally don't care, if someone gives you money to spend you spend it!
he will get us playing the right way and i am very confident of us staying up, if that happens i believe we should keep him with another under his wing. it will make my day.
