It has been reported in Spain that Barca will pay 40M Euros for Bale this summer.

"I wouldn't think there's a slightest bit of truth in that," said Redknapp. "Not a chance I wouldn't have thought."

So what can we infer from this? Probably that Bale will be going to Barca for about 40M Euros :smiley-finger007:

Our sell-on clause has gone hasn't it?

Bloody proud of the lad. A Saints product at Barcelona, fancy that.

Here's a question? Do you think that Bale (or any of ours ex's come to that) would have preferred to have achieved his success at Southampton if it had been possible? Or is he now a Spurs man?

If I remember rightly, he didn't ask to go, it was a question of finances.

We did have a sell on clause but unfortunately Spurs bought it off us for a small amount (can't remember how much, one or two million maybe) when we were in administration and needed the money.

Luka Modric didn't go anywhere last season, did he? So if Spurs want Gareth Bale to stay, expect him to do so. As for Bale wishing he could have achieved success with us, wouldn't have thought so. He's made it pretty clear he wants CL football, having had a taste of it already. Don't think we'll be offering that for a while.

Right, so if Spurs don't qualify for the Champions League he'll be off. All it takes is for them to fail to win their last game, or for Chelsea to beat Bayern, and they won't qualify.

Not if he's under contract he won't be. Daniel Levy played hardball with Modric last season, expect him to do the same with Bale if Redknapp insists on keeping him.

gareth bale would be crazy to leave spurs. i do think players use not playing champions league footy as a reason for leaving when really its to do with greed and wanting more money

I don't believe that for a second. Any footballer with ambition would want to compete at the highest level he can. Tottenham aren't going to be winning any major trophies any time soon. If a player wants to be recognised among the top players in the game, he needs to strive to win leagues, Champions Leagues and World Cups. Bale is good enough to be playing at the highest level, and I'm sure he wants to. There's so much more to it than money.

he's had a great couple of seasons thats for sure and he's developed really well at Spurs, i think he should stay. i didnt mean bale was after cash, some players take the piss though. i think salaries need capping, its players salery's thats casuing the problems for a lot of footy clubs

Terrible shame that he's Welsh.

If salaries were capped, they'd just be paid tons in signing-on fees and appearance fees instead. It's probably best to just leave it to the free market.

Unregulated markets are ultimately pretty disastrous for every party. The game dies when all the success is monopolised by one or two contenders. In Major League Baseball, which takes place in the land where the markets are king, they rig the market to keep the game alive.
