I like it, think its a better idea than going through that bollocks with AV as you know full well if we win the pricks will appeal and drag the ****ing saga out longer. Parking? I park over in the industrial est pay a £5 no problem ain't got a £5 take a chance up the road a bit. Eastend when I was a lad the atmosphere was from the old enclosure then the open end and then a and b block dolman. It moves with time not disputing Eastend is a good atmosphere before someone starts going on at me. But in the new ground people will soon realise where to congress to produce an atmosphere. Reading and Swansea cope with sharing with Rugby and they both seem ok with it. Wigan play with there with their lot but don't super league run over the summer as well. So the ground don't get time to have a summer break and sort itself.
There is failure there to understand why the Eastend bucks the trends elsewhere. It is a great enviroment for atmosphere. Pointless referring to years ago when there were terraces and a huge gang of hooligans creating sections of noisy and sometimes violent support - Dolman A/B was the CSF. New ground after new ground have dire atmospheres. If the club really want to enhance supporter experience yada they should be talking to the fans who know what the score is.
I take your point but at the end of the day it's either going to be AV or a redeveloped AG either way the Eastend will be different. We can't stay as it is, it's just not generating enough money so we need to get behind the new scheme.
When we're playing you again in League 1 the season after next please can we have the old away end back, what was the park end. I never felt comfortable in sitting in a seat in what was crackers corner in the East End...it aint natural.
The rugby League season starts from February and the final round of fixtures are September. I wouldn't mind a ground share with Bristol Rugby personally, although I've never gone to watch them
Happens all over the world,no problem at all regards this. The madjeski look super after football or rugby has been played.
Sorry but "Crackers Corner" was at the Open (Park) End just about where the gap is between the Atyeo and the Dolman. It got it's name from the caustic comments hurled by those who stood there at anyone, home or away team, who was within hearing distance. Also a lot of humour involved, like taking the piss.
How many times have you lot said `we'll see you in league 1.. about 7 seasons in a row now.. you never learn
Then the club should stop saying things like fans will be consulted every step of the way, stadium designed with fans in mind, ensure we represent the history of the club as fans would like, enhance supporter enjoyment, a stadium all can be proud of. the atyeo as a vocal home end should have been knocked down as soon as it was built as it was a total failure. Of course it will be different what fans keep telling the club is do not make it crap all you have to do is keep a traditional feel about one stand.
It looks like I'm the only person that isn't fond of this idea. If Ashton Gate is to be redeveloped then it needs a LOT of work. Compared to a lot of grounds out there it is nowhere near the quality of some Championship teams, and for a forward thinking team in a large city like Bristol it's shocking that we lack a great stadium. Most importantly, it shocks me that Lansdown has given up on Ashton Vale given all the **** he's already had to put up with. Given the significant investment over all these years it would be insane to not follow through and finally get our stadium and facilities on the full set of land. Call me petty, but I want us to use all the land and if/when we get permission I want the builders to be as load as ****ing possible to show up the local numpties as much as they've shown up this city. I don't mind having Bristol rugby playing at Ashton Gate, but only if Lansdown can ensure that the quality of the pitch doesn't deteriorate. Ultimately, I want us to be at Ashton Vale. Even if Ashton Gate is redeveloped I still cannot see it being a great Championship ground and if we ever do pull off the impossible and find ourselves in the Premier League I cannot see anyone wanting to come down to the Gate.
Dont forget the SL still owns the land at Ashton Vale and bought it relatively cheaply as it was deemed 'agricultural' several years ago. Should the stadium there not go ahead, I'm sure that houses, retail outlets and restaurants will still materialise one day, so he'll make his money many times over. Reports say that Lansdown is stumping up the £40m for the Gate redevelopment from his own funds.
Any expensives incured in redevelopment or rebuilding of a ground is exempt under the financial fair play regulations as it is classed as increasing the value of the ground/club so you can thrtow as much money as you want at it, plus it allows you to wipe off any outstanding debts that the club can show have been incurred in trying to increase the value of the club whilst preparing to develop/rebuild a ground including transfer fees, at least thats what Mr Clottini was saying in an interview a couple of months back, however does he have any idea about the provisions? probablly about as much as he and twatter have about the costs of running a football club on a day to day basis, All they have ever done is take money from football. Oh sorry yes Mr Clottini was once a footballer but on massive wages for the time no wonder he can't even consider a wage cap.
A message to our Moderators; The Club have made great play about consulting with the fans and indeed without any warning to it's members, the Club's Fans Parliament (FP) will be/have been meeting people from the Club tonight. The FP may well have ideas of their own or from other City fans but the supporter base of our club runs into many thousands. We on this site are a small proportion but we have mainly a sensible group. So it would be useful for the club to get our opinions? If we all list the subjects / solutions that we are concerned about, these concerns / suggestions can be passed on to the Club. In this way we emphasise, not minimise, the importance we place on our opinions. Here is my list; 1. The accoustics of the new stands is absolutely paramount to the atmosphere that can be generated by the crowd. Thus, even if it means a not unreasonable increase in building costs, then the Club must give very serious consideration to this point in the design of the stands and their roofs. 2. The view from all stands must be un-restricted. 3. The toilet facilities in all stands must be at least 50% more than the current Atyeo stand. 4. Serious consideration to be given in the design of the areas underneath the seating to include sports facilities for local people with under 16's the major priority.
Point one. In todays evening post the supporters trust noted that the plans appeared to be in a advanced position. The plans do appear to be so advanced it is hard to see how supporters can have any input. The club are saying the EE/Williams will be bowl like .. That will seriously alter acoustics.
There are a lot of sensible and serious points that could and should be put across to the board before any plans are agreed let alone submitted, for facilities that are needed in a revamped AG. Its therefore very disappointing to hear that they already appear to be a long way down the road where core decisions have already seemingly been made on supporters behalf.
Then let's get our concerns / ideas in front of them as soon as possible. If we just shrug our shoulders and say "It's already decided, then we will not have a chance of being heard, Do it now and maybe a chance we are heard. For instance, in the only picture we've seen of the "revamped Ashton Gate", the roof appears to be the same height as the Dolman. That makes it a lot higher than the current Wedlock. High roof usually means poor accoustics but on the other hand higher capacity. Yet the Williams appears to be a "stand alone" with a much higher roof than the Dolman/Wedlock. So where is all the extra capacity going? Current and future Atyeo = 4,000 Current and future Dolman = 7,000 Leaves 15,000; If Williams is higher than Dolman, then that could be around 10,000 leaving 5,000 for the Wedlock. It already had 6,000 seats there anyway so this will be rebuilt with a smaller capacity? The figures don't stack up.
There are corporate boxes [14-16] planned for the Wedlock/Eastend. The space needed for the boxes and sight lines will mean the roof has to be higher than it would be without. The club are stating it will improve acoustics A/ I do not believe that is true B/ You can see fans viewing it as no longer being the end the Eastend is now, and always has been and so not being in it to sing anyway.
read with interest on newsnow. that the club could be interested in safe standing areas.should the current restrictions end.sounds like a good idea. increased capacity in the same space. must lead to a better atmosphere in the ground.
Yes Red Alert, any redevelopment of Ashton Gate will change it's character; thus the Wedlock or East End will not remain in it's present state. But the club have to move on if it is to be able to compete in the future. To stay the same as now or before for any business is not sensible but change will not necessarily be to the detriment of that part of the ground. This part of the current stadium has hardly changed since the First Division days of the early 1900's except for a roof erected in 1932. A 100 year old factory, theatre or football stadium needs to keep up with not only modern technology but also the aspirations of it's owners, customers and in our case, the supporters. I personally would prefer the new stadium at AV which would allow for much larger capacities in the future but we must make our voices heard if Plan B ever goes ahead.
