Red & white, blue or nothing...?

Quick Xmas based Saints thread.

I bought my 6 year old a new Saints kit for Xmas and gave it to him yesterday.

He proceeded to descend into floods of tears as he wants a Chelsea shirt. His basis for wanting it is that he likes the colour blue and his best friend likes Chelsea.

Should I insist on him stating red and white, go against my principles and buy a Chelsea shirt or let him go without...?

These are indeed testing times....!
 
Hypothetically it were my son doing this..

If we were going to Saints games together I'd tell him he won't be able to wear a Chelsea shirt to Saints games, so he would have no football shirt to wear to the game (if he doesn't have one already). I'd also tell him to support his own team, the one he likes. Explain that his friend's dad probably follows Chelsea, so his best friend does. Or did friend is probably a glory support as Chelsea just won the title. I'd see saying all this was a good deterrent or not.

If we weren't going to Saints games anyway I'd still explain the part about supporting his own team etc. If that didn't sway him then I'd just get him the Chelsea shirt. Undecided whether I'd get him the Chelsea shirt as well or instead.

That'd be buying him two Chelsea shirts :)
 
Does depend to some extent on where you live; assuming it's some point between Southampton and West London, you can at least be grateful he hasn't asked for a Man Utd shirt (that would be a disinheriting offence).
 
When I was in school the teacher asked everyone who they support. This was in Fareham so everyone supported Pompey, apart from me, the sole Saints fan. The teacher asked me why I supported Southampton
"because it's my dad's team"
"and why do you have to do what your parents do? What would you do if your dad was a burglar and your mum was a prostitute?"
"then I'd support Portsmouth like the rest of you dirty bastards"

There are orphanages where you can deposit him. They may even let you swap him for little boy who wears a Saints shirt.

If that's far too drastic for you then take the shirt back get a refund and spend the money on beer.

He can save for his own shirt if its a really ****ty colour he is after.

Or you could just tell him that in a blue shirt he would be mistaken for a Pompey fan and that should put him off the colour blue for life.

Have you got my son by mistake? He's about to turn 6 and says he likes Chelsea because he loves blue. He also likes Ipswich because they are blue with a horsey.

Does he really want to be a CHAV? Get him a Barcelona shirt and tell him this is the greatest team on the planet and are much better than Chelsea. But gradually imbibe him into the Southampton way
 
If he wants a Chelsea shirt buy him a Chelsea shirt. You can't force him to follow saints and refusing because you want him to just seems stubborn. But as stated above he can't wear it to saints matches.

Buy him a Pompey shirt if he loves blue. Apt punishment. Possibly too harsh.
 
Hmmmm.... Considered most of the above points.... Have left his Saints shirt in his wardrobe.... With his brother and sister both happy to wear theirs I'm hoping peer pressure rules....!
 
My 5year old did not like the red and white stripes but had outgrown his fav yellow Colombian top and wanted a yellow top only. I got him a saints goalkeeper top now everybody is happy
