Football is run and governed by money, mate. I don't like it anymore than you do, but at the end of the day, if you can't deal with it you're better off watching sunday league and pub teams. It'll happen to other clubs in time. Whether it's an evolution of Leeds United, or an extension, it will still be the closest thing to the Leeds United you know and love. So it'll have to do.

No it won't, because those who attempt to associate the club with the Leeds United they currently know and love will be ejected from the ground. All they are interested in is the golden share.

They are not interested in evolving Leeds United. It's not a change, it's a replacement.

Not sure if I have his pic still - Elland might be able to find it (he's good at locating very old posts)
See Leicester fans are a bit upset about Watford signing 7 Udinese players on a free!!

I'm not sure whether this is at all relevant but I heard an interesting story about Red Bull today after bringing this very thread up with a couple of mates.

Red Bull are not an energy drink brand or even drink manufacturers but they are a marketing company. They head of Red Bull went to Thailand (or somewhere in Asia, pretty sure it was Thailand) and he was a marketing guru, everything he touched turned successful. He went to Thailand though and had serious problems with jet lag, ended up finding a small little stall that claimed to give you extra energy for working more hours and thats when he discovered what is now known as Red Bull today (obviously with a few tweaks). He ended up going back to Thailand just to find this little stall and offered him 30% of sales for this drink if they allowed him to market it in the western world and he accepted.

Point is, that red bull are very successful at bringing in extra revenue into companies and only want to be involved with people/organisations that really will be huge for them.

Incidentally this is a story that has been passed onto me so it could be a load of bull.

I don't want Leeds United to change whatsoever in regards to naming of anything associated with Leeds, in fact I will only (begrudgingly) accept them changing the stadium name or even Thorp Arch before starting to complain. I wouldn't accept anything further whatsoever and would still call the stadium Elland Road and nothing will really stop me from doing that

Its not selling your soul, its being understanding of the owners trying to maximise the club's abilities to compete

It is a load of rubbish. The name of the drink is due to it having Taurine in it, which is farmed from bulls piss.

I'm not saying the company was around before that, I know thats why its called Red Bull but that is where it came from. The head of Red Bull had no intentions of creating an energy drink, he just saw the potential of the product and got in early and marketed it accordingly. He marketed this drink in the west and changed its name to Red Bull and changed the branding because it would be more successful. He continued with this name through all of his other expeditions because it was already a well known name.

I've been reading this thread and shaking my head. Just as well we didn't have all this social media stuff when the Don was binning 'our tradition' and daring to play in the colour of those Johny Foreigners! If it had been Barcelona on top then & not Real, would you really be objecting to us playing in the blue & red of Barcelona, Marko? I don't think so.

<laugh> Don't velieve everything you read Marco.

Taurine is a synthetic chemical mass produced in China (obtained from isethionic acid)

When Red Bull have gone the whole hog it's when they've taken over clubs that are on their deathbed financially (Salzburg, also their local club), no mark teams in Ghana, America or the German 5th division, or created new ones completely. They actually have various levels of involvement elsewhere from sponsoring the shorts of a Thai PL team to investing in an Austrian 2nd division side. On top of that they stand to gain a lot from a close association with a resurgent Leeds United, and a lot to lose from there if they risked alienating half the fanbase, and, let's face it, the fanbase and the club name/history are all we really have going for us and are our main source of potential. I also don't see why they wouldn't just buy us out at this point if they were going down the Salzburg/NY route.

We should definitely be cautious, but all the scaremongering is, for now at least, unnecessary IMO, it wouldn't make any sense for a club of our size in a market like the English league. Get your name on the shirt and stadium of a successful PL team and you're laughing, you stand to lose all that by messing with it too much.

Very noble statement, but WTF does it mean specifically? Would you have objected to what the Don did? After all, he buried 'our traditions', dodn't he?

Interesting point there Simon. Wasn't aware of the other clubs where they have just sponsored, thought Salzburg and NY were the only ones.

They don't sponsor the shirts of any clubs, but I don't think it's out of the question for a move into the English market. It is different to the "Red Bull don't do sponsorship" you keep seeing parroted around, they do, just not the shirts of football clubs (yet).

    <laugh>.

Way too much change here... why can't we just continue to walk everywhere like we have been since the beginning of time rather than using wheels...

They generally don't sponsor teams per-se (at least they haven't to date). They sponsor events or individuals.

They tend to buy teams instead of sponsoring those owned by others!!
