Just a bit of fun to kill a ****ty work day. Hopefully this thread becomes moot in a week!! Clearly we want the club to have more sophisticated recruitment than us lot chatting rubbish on a forum - but who should we realistically target to re-build this team for next year. Don't want profiles of players - real names. For me: Josef Burisk - gk on loan from Stoke Jerry Yates - fwd permanent from Blackpool Jorge Grant - CM from Lincoln Rob Atkinson - CB from Oxford Alex Mowatt - CM free (from Barnsley) Adam Smith - RB free (from Bournemouth) And I'll just throw it out there but currently Jimmy Dunne's contract is due to expire in the summer. club tried to renew in march but he seemed to want to assess his options for first team football.
We should be looking at experienced players who are already good enough for the league above whilst trying to snaffle the best youngsters who are already performing well at League 1 level for the lesser clubs - players like that young lad Johnson who scored Lincoln’s second on Wednesday. No more scraping the barrel for failures like Max Power and Jack Baldwin please.
https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...PlayerStatistics/England-League-One-2020-2021 We've got six players in the top 100 players in the league. We should be able to increase that number relatively cheaply, but that list is where I'd start.
Id add Sanderson to that list aswell on another season loan. Wolves will want to up his development and loan him to a top Championship team though unfortunately if they decide he's not quite ready for them yet. He'll gain nothing by spending another season playing in League 1.
Should go all out for the lad at mk dons. Blackpool lb if available. Welsh Striker at Plymouth and winger at morecambe. We've got some experience so I'd go for more prospects like mic mac did back in the day. Add in the youth we still have and it's a decent start. We need one championship standard keeper though and if poss a gaurentee of goals up top.
Most of that list is more of the same. Too old and slow on high wages. We need to get players on way up not way down
Only good on an emergency 6 game max deal. We would be better leaving that until our actual keepers are "head injured" after a dip in form.
This but not arsed about kids from L1 lets just grab young talent from a higher level too. I would want use to fill the squad with experienced Championship level and equivalent or better players. We have done the L1 and below level thing and its got us nowhere so far. We cant continue to do the same things and expect a different outcome.
That Atkinson from Oxford keeps popping up, 2nd in that list and made team of the season. Only 22 as well, start there and work forward for me. That Montsma (23) from Lincoln has looked decent the few times we've played them as well and maybe their left back.
Interesting that George Dobson was number 42 in that list, Sunderland's highest CM... Leadbitter at number 118!
With all due respect to the OP I think there's little point in predicting signings as it's clearly going to be players that fit a particular mould underpinned by data we can't see. As opposed to just available good players who would come as per the previous 10 years. I imagine there's going to be some "who the fecks he like?" moments over the summer.
There was a centre half played against us a few weeks back that was outstanding, can’t remember who he played for but him. He won everything in the air and on the ground.
Dont agree mate. Bannan and Waghorn are 31 and both are different to what we have IMO. Both out of contract too. Waghorn at Derby has turned into that non stop nasty centre forward with movement centre halves hate. Bannan just makes everyone play quick. Hunt is a right back who at 30 has pleny of experience at a higher level and would be better than anyone we have played there in the last 2 seasons. Graham has impressed me this year but I do want Diamond to grab the right hand side slot. The young lad is one I would take to back up the right back and again we just dont have that. Anyway, as someone else says none of this is relevant as they have their plan. Was just chucking a few names in off the top of my head.
That Embleton for Blackpool looks a good player. Exactly the sort of player we could do with in our side.
