Aguero is already on a massive pay packet dont worry about that!! Also in Spain i think high earners dont get taxed any where near what they would in this country.

I read somewhere that when we were in for Aguero, we would have had to have paid around 200k a week due to our high tax rate. That ultimately made the transfer unworkable coupled with the massive transfer fee.

Forlan though surely wouldn't be able to demand 'massive' wages given his age??

If we are going for one of these ageing strikers, Forlan, Drogba, or whoever, it clearly will have to be somebody who just wants to play more regularly, and has made enough money, already, not to be too concerned about wages.

Please not Forlan!!! His form has dropped dramatically since the World Cup, probably because he's knocking on a bit. What's the point in buying someone like this? This isn't Levy's style. I'll be gobsmacked if DL sanctions a deal for him. We have a policy for bringing in players with a greater sell on value, he'd have none. I think it's more likely we'll get Adebayor, providing he dramatically drops his wage demands. Man City will probably start dealing with us again seeing as though they've gone up a notch. They're probably more worried about Chelsea and United these days.

Forlan is significantly better individually and as a team player than Adebayor but I see your point. Not sure City will want to deal with you though.

Surely their over-hyped egos will no longer see us as a rival?

I think that Adebayor would be just the kind of player that Redknapp would be able to get the best out of, to be honest.
I'd imagine that he'd enjoy playing in front of our current midfield too, if we manage to keep them all.

Grab him, Sturridge, Carew on a free and Wickham for about £10m and offload all of our lot and we'd be sorted! <laugh>

I think Adebayor is a terrific striker - when he's in the mood. And there, always lies the problem, with Mr Adebayor. If we could get him at the right price, worth a punt, though.

I think he could be available at about £8-10 million to be honest just to get him off the books at man city. That would be a major bargain. A punt well worth taking. A lot more than Forlan, who would be the most underwhelming striker signing since Gregor Rasiak. We're supposed to be 'building a team for the future' as DL put it so i see no sense at all in signing a 33 year old.

The problem is that he's more often in a mood - and that tends to cause havoc in the dressing room.

As 'chelsea - over 100 months of history' pointed out, the stumbling block of any signing from Spain will be the wages. Yes, they might be on comparable or less money but the tax rate in Spain is about 20%-22% for top earners. Here it's 50%. So basically they will be taking home less money each month if we offer them the same deal. So unless a player is motivated by the desire to prove himself in a new environment then it may prove difficult to entice them here. And how many players are there that are here for the love of the game?

I think Spain has a flat tax rate no matter what you earn (though I'm not 100% sure about that - I'm sure someone will correct if isn't the case) which seems fair to me. You earn £20,000 you pay £4000 in tax, earn £200,000 and pay £40,000 (just as an example, they only pay tax on a certain amount like we do but no idea what it is). The problem that Labour don't get when they bought in the higher rate is that the rich can avoid tax easier than us proles. So all they are doing is losing all that tax money from the rich completely. Big companies bugger off, highly paid stars send their money off to exotic climes and tax dodging goes through the roof. All of a sudden the country doesn't have any money and so what do the bleeding heart left decide to do to combat it? Put up the tax rate again to get more money. The last time this happened in the 70's the looney labour left got the highest tax band up to 75%! Then wondered why everybody sodded off elsewhere.

    Rant over......:emoticon-0108-speec

They don't bugger off though, they just tax dodge.
Even with a flat rate of tax across the board, the rich still tax dodge.
You could charge 1% and they'd still be trying to get out of it.

Look at high-profile 'benevolent' people like U2.
Rich as anything, trying to promote the abolishment of world poverty and they try to pay as little tax as the possibly can, routing all of their corporate cash through the Netherlands.
    Hypocritical ****s.

Let's face it. If whoever we are interested in signing is mainly motivated by money, we are never going to compete. That's just the way it is at the moment.

The shades have been surgically attached to his head, Ensil.
He kept losing them and thought that this would stop that from happening.

I remember when Arshavin found out he had to hand over half of his £100k per week wages - and basically implied that he'd paid something next to none when he was at Zenit.
