I swear last OT post from me for a good while. After IDS was forced to admit the positive sanction quotes were all fictitious (ie getting sanctioned helped me do x) I saw these published elsewhere, as far as I am aware they are true. I was honestly moved to tears reading them. I can relate to them having been forced out of employment & onto ESA. I was lucky I did research & spent 3 weeks filling in the ESA paperwork & had Dr's letters, hospital letters etc so avoided an assessment but I was worried sick at the time and every time the post arrives I feel physically sick.

Anyway please read and try to bear in mind not all benefit claimants are scroungers or malingerers.

It's absolutely disgusting that this goes on and is so easily swept under the carpet.

I think as a country we need to re-familiarise ourselves with the words of William Beveridge and stop fretting over the hyperbolic right wing nonsense printed in our newspapers about how awful the welfare state is. Benefit "scrounging" is no where near the levels the public perceives it to be and this ridiculous paranoia that we are all somehow being mugged off leads to these outrageous and grotesque injustices that the OP highlights.

The man is pure evil. I'm certain it was him who said it was easily possible to live on some or other obscenely small amount of money in a given length of time but when actually challenged to do it, of course he didn't.

IDS is so unbelievably deluded and ignorant that he honestly sees himself as some sort of super hero who is changing lives when in reality he is wilfully destroying the lives of the most vulnerable people in society.

I can't be arsed to be diplomatic about it, he is a contemptible piece of ****.

Fair comment, like I said I was taking them at face value. Without naming names I could list dozens more of these cases having seen them bring dealt with by Fightback.

I agree anyone telling anything other than the truth is abhorrent. I disagree that it's worse though. It shouldn't happen BUT it is about one person, the DWP carrying on the way they are affects everyone who come into contact with them. I do not condone it & I don't agree with it.

There is also the possibility that it was government policy that "helped" because of the changes to "fit notes" & taking that away from GPs & having a "phone assessment" for your fit note. Anyway it us wrong for anyone to make political gains by making false statements. We must not lose sight that one person made this vs a whole government & civil service who are doing far worse.

I tried editing her out but it didn't work unfortunately.

£16billion has been spent to deliver universal credit despite only 65,000 people claiming the benefit.

£16 BILLION wasted Omg that's a new level of waste & incompetence.

At current rates it's going to take 500 YEARS to move claimants to universal credit. I knew it was bad but that bad?
 
I would hesitate to call it pure evil. I think what happens with these people is that they are totally isolated from the kind of problems that poor people suffer. The IDS world will have been one of unremitting privilege from cradle to the grave. I find it a bit harder to forgive those from humble backgrounds who make good and then adopt IDS attitudes to others. It seems common for people to think "I've made it, why can't they?" You could just as easily say that as a lottery winner, which in effect is what it often is. FFS some even marry into money and say it.

Thing is IDS only has money because of his wife, he has lived with claiming housing benefit (commiting fraud if stories are true but not going there). IDS also did some time on a sinkhole estate where he was reduced to tears to see how people were living & promised he would help, as soon as he got into power he soon forgot.

He said he could live on JSA then put an expense claim in for a £30 breakfast. There was a petition got over 100,000 signatures calling on IDS to try he ignored it.

Personally I think all DWP ministers should have to spend a month claiming JSA or ESA & surviving on it (not living) THEN they would understand

A piece of **** who, as leader of the opposition in 2003, also voted in favour of the invasion of Iraq, along with dodgy Dave - a fact Tories tend to go very quiet about amidst all their hand-wringing towards Tony Blair.
I know I always bang on about this, but it is just another example of how people are manipulated and facts are distorted as I'm sure an awful lot of the population have this incorrect notion that the Tories were somehow against the war, when in fact they are the biggest war mongers of the lot.

It's tragic how the masses are manipulated. Just done a marathon Game of Thrones session over past few weeks. Watching how the masses are lied to & manipulated, in a much more simplistic way of course but then you can draw parallels to real life & it's very scary.

I'm sure you're right that some Tory voters do think they were against the war.

I see the Daily Hate has run was 2 page spread today on a future article where Corbyn wins in 2020 & destroys the country, shows £3tn in debt & has to be airlifted from number 10 by the UN. Exactly the kind of disgusting public manipulation I'm talking about.

I'd like to see some decent legislation against this kind of disgusting propaganda.

Some of these stories against the poor & disabled are akin to the stories run against the Jews in the run up to WW2. These journalists & editors should be ashamed of themselves, there should be a law where papers have to be impartial.
