gomez hasn't got that in him any more than carragher would have. he really could do a 343 rcb role but I just don't see him stepping into midfield
It’s also massively different having the ball at CB and being able to see eveything in front of you for a pass. and being in midfield and receiving the ball with your back to play, being able to take it on the turn or be aware you’re being closed down from behind and knocking it off back/sidewards to avoid losing it.
Henderson did a fair stint in the no.6 roll and couldn't turn, fab can't do it either, I can't imagine Joe would be worse, with the possibility that his athleticism might be a bonus. Obviously this is just spit balling about something we are never going to see. But with 2 weeks to fill, it's something to talk about.
basically he's never shown any abilities even close to that of a midfielder. he doesn't run on like matip for example.
fabinho does a lot of work in the right way, or did. interceptions, closing down, covering matips runs, being the central option and flipping ball out to full backs etc itw like watching a guy running through treacle now. he certainly doesn't play on the half turn but he's a no 6
Gomez has actually played better at RB for us than CB, but he's not going to get a game at RB unless we bench TAA for a bit (which he might need tbf).
Milner has played better than Trent in the RB position, with a suggestion of a one year further extension for him, this is why.
Milner actually blocks crosses, something which seems to have gone out of fashion atm. Also, anyone who plays against him knows they are likely to collect a few more identifying marks, so it can inhibit them a little.
milner is as slow as slow can be. it's all good and does a job but for me he is just not a starter. it says it all about gomez that klopp will throw on the oap before him. constantly.
Don't think anyone's expecting Milner to start too many games but he's shown he can still be an effective member of the team in the right circumstances. I say it a lot, some players bring more to the team than just what we see on the pitch. Milner is a natural leader and a model professional. How do you replace what he brings to the dressing room? I think he has one more season in him for us, in a limited onfield capacity. They don't make them like him anymore.
Milner’s influence in the dressing room has been crucial this season. He wouldn’t allow standards to drop …
