When I was a kid we went to Butlins (yeah, I know) and Sir Bobby Moore ran a football masterclass and mini 5-a-side tourno for the kids. What a lovely guy he was. He had time for all of us and just seemed to be enjoying himself. Most of you probably haven't heard of him, but I played for a good youth team and Martin Hicks was our coach - he was Reading FC's captain at the time.
Also in that youth team, I played alongside George Friel who went on to play for Reading. My older brother was in a youth team with ex England international Neil Webb.
I met him quite a few times. He was sort of friends with my dad - they used to referee together for a while before George rose through the ranks and my dad stayed in the Northern League. I've still got (somewhere) a cup final programme with his autograph on it, after my dad spotted him on the same train back from London after the game. That's the problem with having a dad who is a ref. I must have been the only kid who had football memorabilia with the refs signature on it!!!!
