Because we don't need to sell anyone. The tables are a-turning... Just look at the stance West Brom and Everton took in the last window...
.. true enough but we don't NEED to sell for any financial reason. ..therefore any move would have to be because players push for it .. and can't see any sign of that currently..
I'd argue that we could even point to Berainho and Stones as proof that if you don't want to sell, you don't have to...
It's only a matter of time with those two and both are young , vardy if it happens would have to be sooner than later , it could be his only chance to play for one of the bigger boys he wouldn't turn that down , wba and Everton will be both fighting off bids again come January .To be fair to vardy and mahrez they will of both earned moves to a top club both have been outstanding for you this season and won't have gone unoticed .
If one of the big boys come sniffing they will want the move , you can't compete finically with them and the rewards that come from playing with a big club.
... Vardy needs to play if he is to be in the England squad for the Euros Mahrez just signed a new deal and I'm pretty sure that we wouldn't look at anything south of £40 M for him .. he also seems incredibly happy.. as his performances are showing. ..gone are the days when clubs like ours had to sell to balance the books..
This is were we have to agree to disagree not many teams in the top league have to sell to balance the books but it doesn't stop deals going through , contracts are only worth a transfer fee nothing else , de gea just signed a new deal and I bet he is Madrid bound in the summer Ps 40 million I think you may be exaggerating the fee a little
Exactly, with our wonderful owners we are extremely strong position financially to not even have to entertain any bids unless the player wants to leave. On another note let's not under estimate the huge benefits that being top of the premier league is having on promoting Leicester City and our brand. The Premier League is massive all around the world and I'm sure our owners are ecstatic.
Other clubs may be interested in our players & players are bought & sold, it's the way of football for all teams. The reverse of this is that with our much improved position & profile when we want to sign quality players they are going to be far more inclined to sign for us. The owners must be delighted LCFC are creating headlines for all the right reasons, & what headlines they currently are. They have been terrific for the club & deserve the rewards it'll bring them.
Congrats on a great season so far lads Don't think you can get too annoyed about people predicting your slide down the table as surely all evidence points to that being the case? We were up there until January last season but generally speaking the cream will rise to the top with their bigger squads. Think you're a certainty for top 8 though and should really push for top 6 if you get lucky with injuries. Also I'd be careful about going down the "we don't need to sell" route. As that won't matter once players want to go. Players hold all the power these days, contracts mean nothing bar determining how much you can ask for. Unbelievable that you are top of the league having only conceded 1 goal less than after 13 games last season when you were bottom Ultimately I think that will be your downfall in the end as if/when goals dry up you're going to struggle to win games, whereas we had a brilliant defence to fall back on last year when our goals dried up and won plenty of games 1-0. I hope I'm wrong though would love to see you (or anyone bar usual suspects) break the top 4. I honestly think if a 'smaller' club like Saints Leicester etc. were to get in the top 4 it would be the best thing to happen to English football for a long time. All the best bar when we come to the KP
Cheers JWP. There is another thread, comparing us this season with you last season. You finished 7th last season, would still love that right now! The only part of your post that I may not agree with, is about selling our players. I would like to point to the case of Berainho and Stones in the summer... The "bigger" clubs came calling with offers, both players admitted they wanted to go, but the clubs held firm... I am hoping, in that respect, that the tide is turning. Also, I actually can't see anybody coming in for Vardy. He is already 28, and I honestly don't think he'd suit the style of many other clubs... Also, we've brought him from non-league to Premier League record-setter, I'm not sure he'd want to leave to sit on the bench elsewhere. Mahrez is a bigger worry, he's young, and is extremely talented. However, he has only recently signed a new deal, which means we don't need to sell him... And even if bids come in, and his head is turned, I hope we'd do a WBA/Everton rather than a Liverpool... Either way. if Mahrez was to go, it would be at a very high price...
I actually agree about Vardy he's past the age where it seems worthwhile to spend £20m+ on him as surely that's what it would take, a long shot might be Liverpool though who could come in for him, think he'd suit Klopps style very much. Agree about Mahrez, such a class act and don't think you'll be able to hold on to him for long but as you say will get good money and if you can replace him well for half the price then you will be laughing. I take your point about Stones/Berahinho and would also throw Wanyama in there from this Summer who didn't go, but the problem is it was Spurs and their insulting bids for Berahinho & Wanyama (like £5m upfront and rest in installments ) And with Stones he's already at a pretty big club on most probably a decent wage to boot. He also still very young so has his whole career ahead of him to move. It's the players in mid-20s you have to worry about as once a big team shows interest they think it might be the only chance they'll get. The other thing with above 3 is I expect all of them to move next Summer, you can delay for a year sometimes but generally if a player wants to go they will get their way.
Absolutely, we don't expect to be hanging around very long near the top, but you never know, if we beat Man U next weekend, we'll start opening up a gap I'd be more than happy with a mid table finish this year, if we finish 11th, its still an improvement on last year. Im glad that we are not just going to "comfortably" avoid relegation, but it seems like we are going to do it in absolute luxury. I think most share your concern about holding players, if Mahrez gets the call from a champion league club (and lets face it, Mahrez is a french talking stylistic midfielder, so theres only one place hes going! *cough* Arsenal *cough*) then no-one would begrudge him a move due to him coming upto his "prime" age and wanting to play against the best in europe. Vardy may get a few bids too and if he could go from Stocksbridge Park Steels to Man United, or even Madrid! then that story alone would be worth him moving. Although i'd like him to stay, he could goto a top side and be on ridiculously more money to end his career. I just hope we get the best deals for both, both are under some pretty long contracts, so i don't expect we will lose out on 2 players that cost us £1.5m combined Some people have us down as a 2 man squad but im quite happy with ours, you don't sit top of the league because of 2 players. I certainly don't think we will crumble if we did lose both of these like how Benteke and Delph leaving has hit Villa hard.
Agree with that, you've built a pretty strong squad fairly quickly since promotion, similar to us. Completely different to Villa. We've shown that with a good scouting network and coaching then you can sell almost anyone and still progress if you're clever about it.
No one no one is annoyed at suggestions that we will slip down at the table on the contrary we actually agree many believe and expect as to finish around mid table which would be fantastic progress after last season
