Pukki could of put a bit of lift on his penalty too many goals trickle in on the ground.

    Disappointingly

Agreed and other than that last series of set pieces I do not remember thinking we looked under threat.

Was it me or did McClean provide a lot of cover for Sorensen? And when McClean drifted forwards I think Skipp covered there too.

I thought max was fantastic tonight. Hes really far too good for this level.

I thought skipp was a little off his usual best, and gave the ball away with some ill though out through balls.

Cantwell also was far from his best, but he did grow into the game and hes been of a while.

All in all we looked in control throughout (ignore last 2 minutes) and theres some lovely tight passing going on. I do wish we didn't bomb up the field only to cut back inside and kill the momentum so much, but thats a minor gripe.

I was wondering about that, too. Didn't see him looking injured.

I spend most of the game watching Max off the ball he is a little tank with a World class touch

Hes just so damn consistent too. Great control, really good brain on him setting up the play, and just focused for the full 90. I just was in awe of him really. Maybe im a bit harsh on Cantwell and his couple of moments of clumsiness with the ball at his feet, but if i am its because Max is showing him up a bit.

Edit - i think one of the things thats so impressive is he so rarely tried to play a pass that wasnt on. Even under pressure he still knows to wait until there's a good option. He's so unflustered. Legend.

I think that’s probably because hand on heart Cantwell’s likely best case is becoming a mid table Premier League player. A good one, but not exceptional.

Whereas Max probably has the potential to get close to if not the top.

I think you're spot on about Todd. It's always an adventure with him. He might create something great, or he might lose the ball. I missed him when he was out. A very entertaining player.

Hi, Thai. I'm happy without the variety. Variety might mean losing 1-2. I'd be happy with another ten 2-1 victories.

Both Cantwell and Dowell have been out for a while so we can’t expect them to be up to speed right away. Dowell did well considering and I thought Cantwell grew into the game with some nice touches after a a difficult start.
I was glad to see them both come on at half time as Stieps and Martin weren’t at their best.

And with players like that you can only have so many in the team. One or two is fine (as long as they arent in defence - horror flashbacks of Bassongs many moments of madness). Any more than that and you run the risk of becoming very porous.

Emi is also a little bit guilty of this, but i love that he seems to know it, so when one of his flourishes doesnt work and he loses the ball, it becomes a point of pride for him to race after it and fight to the death (or red card) to defend his honour with whoever dared to think they could take the ball from him!
