If transfer fees are paid in stages then you can budget on a cash basis over a few years. The problem is that if you get relegated after a year the cash available in future years is reduced. I suppose you can write clauses in the contracts to ensure you pay reduced wages, terminate contracts, have buy out clauses but it gets complicated and it puts you at a disadvantage when competing with "more established clubs".

But if we spend future years cash now how are we going to improve the squad in future years if we've already spent the cash

From the Reading board...

If its a straight fight between hull and Reading,we must be favourite.Hooper is a southerner and we are in a much better location then the north.Hull city,no disrespects have not got a cat in hell's chance of staying up ,while we ,if the signings are true, could possibly go up again. So Reading, nice area, right next to London and Heathrow, good prospects, wealthy chairman,a manager who knows him and Hull, ever been there lol.

****ing mong. <laugh>

He's proved he's not bothered about staying down south or living in this area and if what I've been told he still owns his house from his Scunny days

Reports north of the border now have it that Celtic have contacted Hull City as no other interest has been shown by PL clubs. Gary Hooper has made it clear to the hoops that he wont sign another contract and he does not wish to consider any championship clubs. Looks to me that Gary Hooper is pulling the strings and Celtic will have to dance accordingly. Or lose him for nothing next summer. So that is now 3 of them entering the final year of a contract. Hooper - Austin - Kasper Schm. I wonder if Austin is doing the same thing @ Burnley ?

I read that Reading fans and the club are desperate to sign him but he doesn't want Championship football. We may be the only option with Norwich at the moment.
