Which, if rumour is to be believed, then he is worth 2m+ as that is what Reading have offered. If he does not leave, then it is likely his stock will improve as next season progresses. Plus if he has 3yrs remaining on his contract it is possible that we can ask for a little bit more.
BB is right though, as with anything, it's only worth what someone will pay. Bit like house buying. I'm surprised that at this stage there hasn't been more interest, but maybe it will pay off for us in the longer run. Maybe, we can keep him for another 6 months...dare i hope? lol
He is correct, however it would seem that Reading were willing to offer £2,000,000 plus add ons, Wigan were rumoured to have offered about that in Jan, so would it not seem that that is what he is worth with less than a year on his contract?? Therefore is it not reasonable to assume that if he continues at this rate of progression and signs a new 2/3 year deal his value will increase??
Which is why i said we have to offer him a new deal to be sure that we get as much as possible for him. Then BB questioned how much he is worth and said he is only worth what people will pay (2-3mill) so i was answering you both.
Well, I certainly never said £2-3M -I was simply responding to your original figure of £2M+ which, when all said and done, is merely rumoured to be the amount that Reading offered, and is certainly a far cry from £3M. The Wobby 'understands' that that is the figure or thereabouts, implying that it doesn't really know - and it 'believes' that the figure includes add-ons, but again it doesn't really know. If the figure does include add-ons, that could easily mean that the cash offer was £1.5M (which is another rumour that has done the rounds) plus the possibility of extras which may never actually eventuate. We would all like to see a higher fee, the club would obviously want a higher fee, but if Reading aren't willing to pay more, which clubs are?
I didnt say that you had said 2-3M, i simply meant that that is what Reading are rumoured to have offered. I have put 2-3 because we dont know how much the add ons will total, they could be an extra couple of thousand, or and extra couple of hundred thousand. So it would be somewhere between £2,000,000 and £3,000,000.
If he stays and we have an shocking start to the season, letting in lots of goals, his stock won't rise.
But if he stays we wont need to buy a new CB or have Taylor and Nos, we will just be able to pick up from where we left off. I hope!
An intruiging snippet... I've been seeing the stuff on here about Mapps for a few weeks now and I honestly don't know where Reading fans are getting their info from. I happen to know that Watford have received bids from Reading and ALL of them have been knocked back. So good luck to Aidy if you get him but I wouldn't be so confident if I were you! You'll find why nearer the weekend. Ta ta. I wonder if that quote is in relation to a possible takeover or another club coming in for Mapps ?
Pompey have just about their whole first team squad for sale in a desperate attempt to raise some cash. So far there have been no offers, but the administrator thinks that clubs will bid something when training starts. There are many reasons why clubs try to do a good deal, it is a bit like selling cattle.
Surely we can offload him regardless?? We have Taylor, Nos, Bennett, Thompson and Tumwa. Do we really need Mirfin??
