No, they aren't, but it's all I ate while I was there, everything else gave me the ****s. Except sheep's head. That was ok.
One of the best meals I've ever eaten(and I ate it every lunchtime for a week), was served out of the window of someone's house. I was staying with three mates in Ios about twenty five years ago, it was at the end of summer and most places had closed for the season. We booked flights, but no accommodation and when we landed we just hopped in a cab and told the driver to take us somewhere decent. He said his cousin owned a taverna on a beach and we could stay there and as it was out of season, we'd get a good price. He called his cousin and said we could have two twin rooms for £1.50 each per night. It seemed a bit too good to be true, but sure enough, we got the rooms for the price he said and it was a decent place. On arrival, as lads in their 20's do, we went out and got pissed. We got up mid morning the next day and as we walked outside, a woman in the house next door opened her window and put out a sign saying 'souvlaki £1'(it didn't actually say £1, it said whatever a quid was in drachmas at the time). It was fantastic, absolutely fantastic. For those not familiar with souvlaki served through a house window, it's chicken, lettuce and tzatziki in a rolled flatbread, served through a window. If I had the slightest idea where we were, I'd go back, to see if it really was as good as I remember.
