Good point skrtels but then look again at some of our young players just to name a few -Courtious,Van Aanholt,Bertrand,Ramires,Mata,Sturridge,McCreachan,Luiz,Kakuta,Davillas,Clifford. No doubt we need to buy some more young talent but by the signings this summer it looks like we know what were doing considering apart from meireles there all young
Can't take you seriously taking about spending when you don't know the difference between gross and nett.
What about Ashley Young and Phil Jones? Sure, they'll be paid more at United, but they're almost guaranteed a trophy. When was the last time United finished a season without one? Oh, and Fabregas. He's won 2 already.
Btw, some people on this thread need to learn the difference between 'big club' and 'good team'. Liverpool's team hasn't been very good for the last couple of seasons, but the club remains as large as ever.
another thread that starts with a discussion that just descends into squabbling....boring...'We're a bigger club than you' just sounds like 'my dads bigger than yours' it's childish and no one agrees. Banter's fine, but I am tiring of the petty squabbling on here. There could be a myriad of reasons why Meireles left Liverpool. Moving to London could well be a big factor, moving to a squad with several Portuguese speakers (Boswinga, Alex, Luiz, Ferreira, Ramires) could have been a pull. He could well be motivated to prove AVB wrong as it was him that shipped him out to Liverpool in the first place and the fact that AVB has come back in for him is a statement that AVB may have regretted selling him. Chelsea's midfield is the weakest area of the squad, where as Liverpool's is bursting at the seems with players. He'll probably get more game time at Chelsea and to top it off he will get the pay rise he was promised at Liverpool but didn't receive.
I reckon this is based on the pay rise promise and the lack of game time. Like I have said before his transfer doesn't bother me as it doesn't really affect the team too much. I still wish him all the best and i'm sure he'll get a decent(ish) reception at Anfield (although to be fair I think the attention will be on Torres)
guys, I can't beleive nobody is saying the obvious. 1. champions league. 2. tapped up 3. he's going to get absolutely booed from the pitch when he returns here if he does an interview on the chelsea website stating he moved to "win things" (as we all know chelsea have the same chance as liveprool have this year)
Meh, I'm not fussed with this whole Tapping up thing anymore, everyone does it. Brian Reade wrote an article which touched upon it about a week ago and I kinda agreed with what he said
sure that's fair to say. it seems every one knows precisely what everyone wants before they make thier move. The dishonest part of it is when you try to sit having done your deal outside the rules and watch other players get shwon the door for you to stay then turn round and also want your loyalty bonus paid up in full. In other words chelsea made it clear to him when they'd move and for how much (but rememebr he's still only third choice transfer for them) then having faield to ge tthier no 1 targets they move in. At least we called him on it and made him give up his payments by forcing the transfer request.
So 2 years (1 full year so far) out of the Champions League and we are a small club. Maybe if someone capitalized on our absence and won the damn thing then they can start to say they are becoming a big club. But taking part in the CL does not make you a big club, winning it does.
Arteta moved for trophies So why in the christ did he join Arsenal. There is more chance of Gary Neville complimenting Liverpool than there is of Arsenal finishing the season with a trophy.
Ah, that old chestnut. Let's hope, if it were to happen, that Stevie G is back in the team so we can at least maintain our status as a one man team....sigh... GKRK
No doubt Suarez is really top top drawer however in my opinion the rest of the team is still average. Seeing the Liverpool love in over average players such as Carroll Downing Henderson and Adam is pretty funny to watch. Sure your defence is pretty solid and when you travel to the big boys you will still play your customary 5 at the back with 2 holding midfielders, so you will be pretty tough to beat but at least wait to Christmas before spouting the same annual "this is our year drivel".
