Davis 7 Chambers 6 Lovren 4 Fonte 6 Shaw 6 Cork 7 Schneiderlin 4 Davis 6 Lallana 4 Gaston 5 Rodriguez 4 Clyne 6 Lallana played worse than I've ever seen him play today. He was constantly losing possession and defended like a headless chicken. We had no shape in midfield due to Lallana and he lost the ball more than anyone on the pitch. How does that constitutes a high rating? Does he gets a 2 or 3 point bonus for being called Adam Lallana? He was injured..
Indeed, as per WhoScored Adam was dispossessed or turned the ball over due to a mistake 12 times, Gaston 8. Both fairly shoddy but just goes to show that people see what they want to believe. Gaston certainly had a few ugly moment, but so did Adam, and every time Adam lost the ball it was met with a 'Good effort' light ripple of applause, when Ramirez did it was met with groans and audible boos (Which I will never, ever understand).
Players get brownie points. We all know Lallana is whole hearted and talented, so he would have to drown kittens to make people turn against him. Ramirez has had a lot of goodwill directed towards him, but now people expect him to deliver. Not fair, but life.
Even if Shaw has a blistering end to the season, think the last thing he needs is being dragged to Brazil. That would burn him out and be worse for Saints. Sod England, we need him fit and well more than they do. It's proven he's a bit "fragile" still with injuries & illness, possibly do to his late growing spurt maybe. He will need a rest in the summer.
Tend to agree, there are teams to play both against and its not Chelsea. Should play JWP out on the right to give us some width, a plan b and someone to cover for Chambers runs
CBK, are you fending off a cold all the time? Never hear a positive word from you. And to people rating lovren equal to lallana and gaston is wrong. I never thought I would say this but fonte bailed him out a couple of times today.
Some people read what they want to read. I will strive to be more positive in 2014, just for you, babe.
Shaw was said to have aggravated an injury to a toe that he picked up in the Everton game. So much negativity here I am not making any further comment.
I think S Davis was our best player today; K Davis has done well since returning too. I thought we did OK in the first half it was the second where we ran out of energy and Chelsea enjoyed the benefit of being able to make 50 million pounds worth of changes. Lovren was poor. On the Ramirez debate I think the muscle of Chelsea scuppered him a bit. I think the problem was that when we took off Cork we played Ramirez deeper and as a holding midfielder we had less shield on our back four. Once we were chasing it was all over albeit after a fortunate first Chelsea goal.
Oh sorry CBK. I didn't realise the ratings were based on knowledge of the oppositions team talk. Simple bias towards Adam. Adam tried hard today but with very little end result. Gaston tried hard and created more. After 60 minutes no-one was good.
Ramirez have a better game than lallana today. Although he disappeared in the second half (like most of the team)
Davis... Did all he could.... 7 Chambers.... Good enough ... 6 Fonte.... Kept it together... 6 Lovren... OK till the head injury then decision making went to pot.. 4 Shaw... Was he fit to start with? 4 Cork.. Worked his socks off, involved all game until subbed???? 7 Scheiderlin.. Not at the races, was he as fit as Shaw (see above)..4 Davis.. Put in a shift.. 5 Lallana.. Also put in a shift but was cleverly shepherded .. 5 JRod.. Was he playing??? 3 Ramirez.. The classic curates egg.. involved in all that was good, but how many times caught in procession?? 6 Subs Clyne.. Good enough, but neutered going forward as his left foot is for standing on.. 5 Lambert.. Should have started as he showed in 25 minutes more than JRod showed all game. 6 Ward P. Tidy, but after the fact.. 5 Lets face it, we were sussed, Chelsea are the first side this season to over run us in midfield. I, frankly, don't care who wins the league, but Chelsea are the best side I've seen this season.. by some distance.. nice to see Jose shake Cork's hand when he was subbed..
Couple of points; Lallana had 2 men on him every time he got the ball. They had a plan to stifle him and it worked. Shaw was hesitant going forward and taking players on because he knew if he lost the ball he'd be left chasing shadows as aspilicueta fed hazard & torres. Ramirez gave the ball away a couple of times but he did shiw a willingness to try & get it back. Chelsea were half a second ahead of us throughout the 2nd half, because every one of their players is world class, & today they showed it

Evening. Firstly, Happy New Year to you all! Secondly, um... what a disappointing game. Haven't posted for a while so thought I'd do a ratings thread. I will add detail for some players, feel free to throw your opinions out too Davis - 7 - Yes 7! He couldn't have done any better today. Quick off his line and commanded the area well! So good saves! Chambers - 6 - some good challenges and was fairly solid first half Fonte - 5 Lovren - 5 Shaw - 5 - Rarely got a chance to stack down the flanks but when he did it was good. Davis - 4 - didn't really notice him today Cork - 4 - as above... Schneiderlin - 5 Ramirez - 4 - cocky, useless, selfish. Got the ball tangled too many times. He is no Messi, and had an inability to pass to a team mate. Lallana - 9 - really great player. Stuck in, kept going and had a couple of good chances. MOTM for Saints! Rodriguez - 5 - wasn't exactly helped by his team mates going forward given there were so few chances
