As we are on the subject of films I'm going to throw in a massive name drop here and ask if anyone has seen any films by Archibald Leach (known better by another name), relative of mine!....
I love the movies. Here's one for you. Name the three male movie stars who were born in the Neath/ Port Talbot area. One of them won best actor Oscar, but which one.
Off the top of my head...4 actually. Anthony Hopkins (Oscar for SOTL) Richard Burton Martin Sheen Ray Milland
" Unforgiven " is an awesome movie for anyone that hasn't seen it . P.S. Anytime " Father Goose " comes on , I can't not watch
all Port Talbot lads butt! Pontrhydyfen (Burton), Baglan (Sheen) and Taibach (Hopkins) .....and don't forget Ivor 'Men of Harlech' Emmanuel of Margam. Those steel works fumes do funny things to us, and making actors is one of them. What a cast if you had all four in the one movie. If you can't remember Ivor, here he is raising the hackles by starting this classic clip off....
Oops,I should have asked which of the three did NOT win an Oscar. It was Burton. Milland won for "Lost Weekend",and Hopkins, as you say,for SOTL. You mention Martin Sheen, but I think you mean Michael. He makes FOUR. He slipped under my radar, basically because I am not familiar with his work. But he qualifies alright. So that makes an incredible FOUR movie stars from that small catchment area. What films has Michael Sheen made,by the way?
swimaway. Don't forget Ray Milland,a Neath boy. I forgot about Ivor Emmanuel, but he was a singer, principally. There's also Stanley Baker, but he was a Valleys boy.
Don't swear at me by bringing Neath into it. Port Talbot talent should be more than enough for you. please log in to view this image
And you can add Rob Brydon into that mix of Port Talbot talent. BAGLAN boy he is, and been in quite a few films too.
I am not familiar with Brydon. The list is getting longer, but my original post was really aimed at the three Heavyweights,Milland, Burton, and Hopkins. However, all due respect to the lesser mortals, who may become legends in the fullness of time.
