And you where discussing reality in your previous post Eddie. Rooney is a quality footballer wether you like him or not. This is why Alex Ferguson bought him, and played him for many years winning countless trophies, whilst Jose Mourinho made him his number 1 and only transfer target a couple of summers ago. But let's ignore how highly the 2 top managers for many years in world football rated him.

Even as a Man United supporter, I think Rooney is abit of a scouse ****, but you can't argue with his ability. Not sure he's worth 250k a week though <laugh>

Aye the poor Jerries were forced to rely on the winner of the golden boot in the previous world cup. The auld **** only managed to score five goals. Shocking.

Muller- ten goals in thirteen world cup finals games.

How many has Rooney scored again?<laugh>

Is this the same Benzema who Giroud sometimes gets in the French team ahead of<laugh>

He's a good player, but Real could do better than him. There are a lot of players in football with similar games who are a lot better than he is

Don't be daft Edward. Benzema is an average player who the media blew out of proportion like many foreigners along with him. Got a big rep and a big transfer to Madrid. He can score but he most definitely is not a creator of his own goals and between him and Rooney in his best days there's no comparison. Rooney had everything Benzema wished he had.

And I'm not a United fan either ;)

Agree STH. When Rooney was 18-25 he was twice the player Benzema ever has been.

These days Rooney is still a quality player, but he's not quite the player he once was. That's why I'd say at the moment there's not to much between them with Rooney slightly edging it:biggrin:

I'm mildly optimistic*. Our young senior team plays better as a team than the previous crop and when it comes to the Euros we should make the quarters and be one good game away from making the semis which will equal the best we've achieved in my lifetime. Our under 21s have been consistently performing for a number of years and it will probably end tonight but are on an 11 game winning streak.

*Might change my tone after Germany U21s and Italy spank us.

Rooney is a very good player, but not as brilliant as first promised. When he was young, he looked like he'd be a Fat Ronaldo-type striker: fast, strong, good dribbler, able to score from any distance. Instead he's become a Shearer/Sheringham hybrid, marrying the styles of the two without truly excelling in either.

I agree Rooney hasn't quite fulfilled his potential. As an 18 year old he was better at that age than Ronaldo was. He just didn't develop in anywhere near the same way Ronaldo did.

I don't think Rooney's ever been that dedicated to getting better, I think he just goes through the motions knowing his natural talent will still keep him at the top, and earning big money. But if he'd had the same level of dedication like Ronaldo did he could have gone on to great things.

I think a lot like to have a dig at Rooney, because he didn't live up to expectations. But you can't ignore that he's still had a very good career so far, and will be remembered as a top player, the best English player of his generation. But he won't be remembered as a great on the world stage, even though he had the talent as a youngster to go right to the top

Perhaps if he had moved to a better league with better coaches like Spain or Germany he would have realised his much vaunted potential

<laugh> He's one of those players who is very good but not great. I do sometimes wonder if fans and the media in other countries hype their players up in the same way.
