Regardless of the bedding in/getting to know new players/changing style etc, it was still a wretched half season even though it was only half a season. Alex Ferguson had 3 relatively unsuccessful years at Man U before things took off and fans were protesting against him.....by that logic was Ranieri going to repeat his Leicester miracle at Fulham if given time? Should De Boer have been given the whole season to mess up Palace because "new managers need to be given a chance"? Ranieri's a nice bloke, but up until Leicester he always had a reputation as a loveable loser, and there really wasn't much to suggest he was gonna get Fulham back on track. He said he wanted the Toon job in 2006 (before Roeder got it permanently), wouldn't have minded him, but would hardly have been ecstatic either.
He's a bit long in the tooth now at 67. Been a very very good manager in his time, hence 18 clubs have chosen to employ him. Lets not forget this has included Valencia, Athletic Madrid, Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Monaco, Parma, Fiorentina. Loveable loser? To be honest whoever suggested that is a pathetic mess of a person. You don't accrue a CV like his through luck. For sure he could have won more, but as big as some of those clubs are, when you look at timing etc he always seems to have taken on the plucky underdog role. Those clubs were not really the big dog in the fight in the main. As we found out with Man U, the plucky underdog success stories are few and far between. Certainly Jose Mourinho has a hell of a lot to thank him for amongst a good few other managers with how he set them up for success by preceding them. Fulham were just a mess. He clearly is not to blame for their predicament. They should never have sacked Jokanovic but clearly they haven't learned. As I have stated above, they've made their own bed and their treatment of Raneri sums up everything wrong with modern football. If you think these modern timeframes are acceptable for managers, I can only assume you are fairly young and brought up in this era. As I say we'd have lost some great managers to this attitude throughout time. To answer your question, yes De Boer should have had more time. If you commit to something like that then see it through - you need time to embed your ideology and get your players, unless you are following someone of similar ilk. I very much doubt anyone expected Raneri to repeat his Leicester work. Not sure where this has any relevance to be honest? Don't get me wrong if you are trying an untested manager with no experience behind him, I can understand why you'd panic. However there is zero logic to Fulham's approach to this season and that has cost them their PL status, not Raneri.
That pretty much sums it up, unfortunately he'll be remembered in many quarters by the perceived failures rather than how good a manager he actually was.
