it will be like a cup final to a lot of those clubs and we know what can happen in these cup matches - though Rangers wont be playing with SPL stars that expect to win at a canter , i suspect most of Rangers will be made op of slightly lesser quality players especially in depth

Which is where the division Rangers are playing in will be irrelevent. As a Newco (following liquidation rather than being a new club starting from scratch) they can't qualify for Europe for 3 years anyway. So even if they'd been in the SPL the rest of the teams would be competing for a CL spot. If Rangers finished second then third would get it.

Of course the coefficients have dropped recently with Celtic not being in the group stages and nobody making the final of the Europa League so they're set to revert to one CL place soon anyway.

A lot of gate receipts generated by Rangers fans will go out of the game.

Sponsorship/tv rights for the whole SPL affected also.

Not a good day for Scottish football.

The big Welsh teams don't play in a Welsh league so the precedent is set already. Whether we like it or not we will have to put up with them soon.

I can't see any reason why.
If Rangers and Celtic want to play in England so much it should only be on the proviso that Glasgow becomes an English city (renamed Albion on the Clyde) and the locals sing God save the queen before every match.

no we won't. the welsh precedent was set more than 90 years ago and wouldn't apply now. wales has in effect been an adjunct to england for hundreds of years more than scotland has. there is an undercurrent in fifa and uefa about the fact that the single sovereign nation of great britain/the united kingdom somehow has four national teams within it. many are dying to remove that anomoly which is there due to historic accident. the scots and welsh do not want to risk losing their own teams hence the disquiet over team gb in the olympics football and the reluctance of non-english players to participate.

there still hasn't been a scottish team playing in the english league. there hasn't been a scottish team of any note playing in any english competitions since scotland created its own competitions.

so, again, seriously, which english teams are going to vote in favour of allowing rangers or celtic to join the english league?

    Crock of ****.

The FA don't want them, English clubs don't want them, English football fans don't want them.

There is absolutely no desire to see Scottish clubs playing in England from anyone who matters and for that reason it has zero chance of happening in the forceeable future.

There is no chance what so ever of any Scottish club joining, for all the above reasons .
Who would make way for them?
What happens to a Scottish club if they were relegated? Would they drop to the championship/div 1?
They cant just join the Premiership or Championship and then go back to Scotland if they are relegated. They would have to join the English FA. Which would mean all sorts of trouble for the Scottish FA.
There is an opinion in FIFA/UEFA that there should just be a Great Britain team with only one place at international competitions instead of the individual home countries.
With Scotland's largest clubs playing in English leagues would that be the excuse FIFA need.

What might work is if the two FA cups merge. Say the Scottish teams that reach their sixth round or quarter final enter the English FA Cup draw at say the fourth round. It would brighten up the FA cup although a re play between Plymouth Argyle and Inverness Caledonian on a Tuesday night might not draw a large away support

No way will this ever happen. Neither will be accepted into the english game. But at least Newco Rangers can say they have played in England @ Berwick of all places. ;)

Yes it does. But not in this case it wont. (But lets just say for arguments sake they were accepted then it would have to be in League 2 to start with. imo)

Correct and the right decision. Dunfermline not happy but they were relegated ffs. Reward success not failure. also promoted as a knock on effect. Airdrie Utd to replace Dundee in the first division and Stranraer to replace Airdrie in the 2nd leaving Newco Rangers in league 3 and they start the season @ Peterhead. Nice away day for the fans. v:emoticon-0116-evilg
