    EBTs were given in TRUST to Rangers players. This normally means those players are holding Rangers Funds for an undetermined period of time and as they are not earnings, they are not taxed. The Funds, however, still belong to Rangers.

    In step Player Agents

    These Agents knowing that funds held in Trust can be recovered from the player by Rangers seek guarantees that they won't.

    Now the illegal bit.

    Rangers sign contracts stating these Trust Funds do not need to be paid back. They do not inform HMRC that the Trust is now earnings and must be taxed.

    You mistake a Trust earning income and being taxed with the Trustee receiving the funds.
