Yes. As I already said, the gap between Scottish teams and those from bigger countries grows each year due to UEFA's sharing out of money (the same happens in Scottish football with Celtic and the rest) and that makes it more difficult to compete. As you gain considerably more co-efficient points for picking up wins and draws in the CL that puts teams from countries like Scotland at a major disadvantage.

And so the gap grows. And as it grows the number of qualifying rounds that Scottish teams have to go through to qualify for European football increases. The more qualifying games the higher the risk of failure, especially as Scottish teams are going into them with very little or even no competitive games under their belts.

It's a conundrum. The better Celtic do in the Champions League the better the co-efficient. But, the better Celtic do in the CL, the more money they get and that makes it incredibly difficult for any other team in Scotland to compete with them.

It's cruel. But, then, Rangers did the same thing in the 1990s and no one cared so you can go **** yourself! The only difference between then and now is that Celtic are doing it honestly and above board.

Surely the gap grows between other countries and the bigger countries too, so that doesn´t explain why Scotland have dropped from 18th to 26th.

The “poor little Scotland” card doesn't work anymore, of course we can't compete with the top countries but neither can teams from Czech Republic, Cyprus and Azerbaijan yet all those countries find themselves above Scotland, none of them have clubs the size of Rangers and Celtic.

Having one team do well in Europe barely allows the country to break even on the coefficient. Scotland used to get 2 entries to the champions league, back when Celtic AND Rangers were doing well in Europe, again no coincidence. The diddy teams will always drag it down but Scotland needs Rangers in Europe, clearly.

How does a **** Rangers who can't even beat a team of part-time players from Luxembourg help Scotland's co-efficient?

Rangers are one of the diddy teams. You must realise that?

For every Progres theres a trip to Manchester, for every Artmedia Bratislava theres a trip to Seville. Both teams have had bad results. Point is that in the past and in the long run Rangers have/will help the coefficient more than the likes of Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs, who have all on a regular basis been pumped out of Europe in the early qualifying rounds and brought nothing to the table

Because dafty up until last season Rangers previous co efficient points were counted in the Scottish co efficient. Then Rangers don't play in Europe for 5 years and our seeding plummets.

    Ye understand?

    Naw probably not.

I believe that it was Rangers failure to beat Maribor that sped up their hilarious demise.

    Europe is almost invitation only.

We only need to reach the group stages for a successful campaign in it.

Anyone who thinks we should knock out Bayern Munich or PSG on merit is deluded.

How? You're comparing two different Rangers teams and two different eras (you can take that any way you like).

The current Rangers team (effectively a poorer team than the one of 2008) is starting with the major disadvantage of having to go through a number of qualifying ties just to reach the group stages of a competition which offers little in the way of co-efficient points and money.

I don't think some Rangers fans realise just how pish you are. You finished 3rd BEHIND Aberdeen and if Hibs weren't so naive at defending you might not have even finished that high. You're now relying on a youth team coach with no managerial experience guiding you to the group stages of a competition which teams on a par with yourselves (Aberdeen, Hibs etc.) have regularly failed to qualify for.

You're no better than the teams you cite as being "pumped out of Europe in the early qualifying rounds and brought nothing to the table" yet somehow you think Rangers are going to improve the co-efficient of Scottish teams in Europe.

    Hmmm...

Just to remind the bears that had Sevco been allowed to skip to the top league they still wouldn't have the 3 years accounts required to play in Europe.

My inital point was that the other teams aren't pulling their weight in Europe, clearly shown by our drop from 18th to 26th in the rankings. If Rangers had been competing in Europe during that time do you think our ranking would be better or worse than 26th? Rangers admittedly had a mare last season, but in the long run Rangers will bring more in Europe, well it can't be worse than what the rest have been doing for the last 5 years anyway.

Nope it's you has missed the point. Coefficient points are calculated over a 5 year period. When Rangers coefficient were no longer available due to them not competing in Europe the Scottish seeding plummeted. It's simple.

I admire your optimism. The way Rangers are being run now it's unlikely you'll be around long enough to make any impact on our country's co-efficient.
