Going back to it being league winners only is too much of a backwards step, it needs to be somewhere in the middle. Give the big leagues their 4+ places but make them qualify, the league winners should be the only team to get automatic entry.

That coefficient table he showed in the video, the league champions of the top 20 in that table should have automatic entry and then anyone else needs to qualify. It also would add a bit more interest to the qualifying rounds with so many big teams in it. If they can’t come through a round or 2 of qualifiers, then they don’t deserve to be there, simple as that.

There was scenarios where even 8th and 9th in the premier league could have ended up in Europe next season, almost half a league playing in Europe is getting too much now

I agree but I don’t think Uefa have the balls to take those places away from the big leagues, next best thing is throw them all into qualifying and let them try to beat each other, the losers would drop into Europa at that point.
