Its bad for football overall that the Scottish league has been weakened to the extent that it has. It wasn't that long ago that you could expect Scottish clubs to have a decent run in European competition. In the late 80s/early 90s, half the England team played for Rangers.
We need more leagues to be stronger to make European competition healthier. I've just been reading about the Yugoslavian league. Before Yugoslavia broke up, they had a decent shout for being one of the top five leagues in Europe with four massive clubs in Red Star, Partizan Belgrade, Dinamo Zagreb, and Hajduk Split with others like FK Sarajevo and one or two more capable of challenging them. European football would be so much more interesting if we had stronger leagues across the board.
