I reckon Hughes will spend the Summer clearing our the driftwood (do we need more than the 25 man squad limit?) tweaking the team (I don't think there'll be mass changes unlike recently) and then he'll start the season with a top 10 finish in sight.
Not so sure about a wholesale clearout. We'd all been saying for ages (at least since Warnock left) that Kenny, Derry, Hill, maybe Mackie, would all be off to Leeds. Adel was meant to be off to PSG and we lost Faurlin to injury. In essence the spine of the team that got us promoted from the Championship would all be gone now if that had come to pass. I'm now of the opinion that keeping some of the old faces around would be a good thing. Agree that lots of dead wood needs to be chopped out but this will be done naturally as there are many contracts coming to an end. Can't believe the likes of Dave Agyemang and Vine are still on the books! There will certainly be some new faces over the summer and I would like these to be sooner rather than later as Sparky needs to have a solid first team ready for the new season. The danger of getting shot of so many could be a very unstable and unbalanced squad, absolutely what we don't need again!
Spot on Aaaagh, I don't think Hughes and Fernandes are around in the Prem to make up the numbers. I have no idea what targets will be set in public or behind closed doors, but 'ambition' is certainly about more than not being relegated. Imagine the least Sparky will want is to finish above Foolham. I just want to see us playing fast, passing football, beating as many of the top teams as possible - getting something from the Manchester teams would be nice - and for Loftus Road to rock like it has for the last few games all the time.
Fantasy Island saying Buz gets a new deal at QPR. http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/lo...elder-to-be-offered-qpr-deal-82029-30990059/?
I completely agree - we certainly want to keep those players you listed - they have the club at heart and I suppose keep it feeling "real" (as opposed to an entire team full of journeymen and mercenaries). We definitely need to lose those players that will never realistically figure in the current first team (or shouldn't) and I'd probably be looking to replace DJ and Bothroyd with improved players (or perhaps youngsters). The balance of a trim 25 man squad should should be the focus.
Then we would be Newcastle. English 3 rd language up there, behind Geordie and French. Give some names, realistic ones. How many do you reckon Les Bleus will put past Terry and co in Ukraine?
I think the boards plan will be simple, get a new Stadium ASAP, this with Phil Beard in charge will be the bread winner for the club, paying for itself as an entertainments venue, not just a home for QPR. Beard made the 02 the worlds number 1 entertainments venue and I'm sure he's been brought in to continue that success for us. By having a stadium that pays for itself will mean the money can be spent elsewhere. I'd imagine that we will continue to see a transfer policy where we'll spend around £20 million each transfer window, and continue to strengthen until we see some success by either winning a cup or gaining a Euro cup run. This might all be long term plans, but I think they intend to reach the top. Our future has never been brighter.
A stadium post! When we get a new stadium i don't want to hear 'we only need a 25K one' because that is a Championship size ground. we lost a lot of fans being away from Prem football and need to make up for lost time. Nice stadium better facilities brings new fans. I could even bring Mrs Ellers along as she won't go near LR.
Not even to Westfield with your credit cards Ellers? That's my sweetener for the wife when she discovers the cost of two season tickets for next year - a few shopping trips to the smoke.
I might try that. We may laugh now but football has changed especially in London. Think Chelsea,Fulham/Arse. All play Prem football, doing okay and the fans come. Agree we see alot of tourists at those grounds but sadly its the future and we either take hold or fall away. Agree you turn LR into a 40K and we won't sell out at present but in time with success and good football and fans will turn up. The amount of my QPR mates who are not season ticket holders and missed out on games is money lost for the club. Trust me TF will not be building a 25K stadium because is not a statement of the future.
I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying Ellers. I just think it should be one step at a time. Building a 25-30k Stadium would be more than adequate for now but with the crucial option of having a design so that new tiers can be added when required. A good architect these days would be well able to build a Stadium in such a way. I think a good example would be Cardiff City. Their old ground was roughly the same size as ours and got in around the same amount. Their new one is 27k , built with a view of having Premier League Football, and they are averaging well. I think if we did something similar it would be a great step in the right direction whilst also minimizing the risk of losing money every week by having a half empty Stadium.
Belhanda, Giroud,Yanga-Mbiwa, Carrasso, Reveillere, Matuidi, Martin, Alou Diarra, Gourcuff, Menez, Remy, and Valbuena. I can't see England getting a good result at best it may be a bore draw
Big fan of Belhanda myself, international teammate of Adel so might help keeping our talisman too. Looks like M'Vila is off to Arsenal, Giroud seems to be the real deal but might be off to Bayern during the summer. What's your take on Mbia as CB, big and powerful, could be what we're looking for. Personally I've liked the look of Gignac in the past, not sure how he's come along the last year, lack of playing time, injuries? Gourcuff, Remy and Menez, I'd take em all but can't see us able to make such signings atm. Valbuena could be a possibility, would take him in a heartbeat!
I'd go higher swords. 35k for me with the ability to add on. I say this based on Loftus Road of old. We would regularly sell out the big games when capacity was 27500 so you need to allow more than that. Extra space can be used for continued things like youth incentives to create fans for the future. Free tickets to schools for lesser games, continued under 8's go free etc. Above all though they need a design that retains atmosphere!! MK Dons was shockingly bad and an example of what we don't want (although they had comfy seats!)
Agree with both 74 and Swords in some parts. There seems to be a rumour (shock horror at QPR) doing the rounds that the Unigate site next to BBC is the boards aim. Great location for transport and i can use 'The white Horse' still! (result). I really would hate to move out of W12/West London and become a souless bowl complete with DIY shops. I can see something happening this season with some sort of dates/plans (especially if we stay up). They don't want to lose money at LR while we are a Prem team.
I just hope they take into account when building a new stadium, what makes Loftus Road such an amazing stadium to watch football. The fans have to be ontop of the players/pitch...not sat 20m back, so that a running track could be put in. We intimidate teams when they come to play us, that couldnt be done if we are sitting miles away from them. Also what would it be called? (I think 30-35K would be more than enough at this stage)
