Was in one of the matchday programmes, they "double dared" each other. I'll see if I can find it.

I think more cos for Best it appears to be a one-off and also he didn't advertise it at all, whereas Ranger posted it on Twitter, mentioned it in about 5 interviews, said he was ready to go to the cameras and show it when he nearly scored (against Liverpool?)

NOTE: "Nearly" scored as Ranger is yet to score in the EPL. Pretty sure that if you had a dead body in the penalty area it would get a goal or two a season

Maybe this was the last straw for Pardew and Ashley?

Sorry, I couldn't resist and it's one of the oldest gags going with Ranger...

the general consensus seems to be a loaned Ranger?

    I'll get my coat.

Big mistake for me in terms of ability. However it is hard to know whether he's actually improved his attitude as Pardew suggested. Who knows but I think he'll turn into a very useful target man. Yes his finishing is terrible. Yes his attitude is a concern. But I'm a big believer in the Sir Bobby method with young players. Give them time to develop, grow up and just generally show patience. His hold up play is as good as any young player I've seen. He makes Shola look Sunday league in this regard. He's quick for a big lad too. The key for me is tall players, particularly strikers take a lot longer to come to hand and reach their full potential. Crouch and N Quinn excellent examples of this. I don't like it and it also suggests we are going to sign two, and rely on coco the clown, the past it Lover, and Best to see us through. Of course you couldn't rule out them only signing one and relying on Best to step up. Let's hope they're not foolish enough to believe that last option is a good one.

We don't know enough of how Ranger conducts himself in the club, with his team-mates, with his discipline and workrate in training. If there are some negatives there, then you have to weigh them against his contribution to points on the board.

Has Ranger got us any goals or assists? Has he helped us defend what we've got near the end of games?

IMO he's not a finisher, though has some talent in attacking midfield. Maybe the brightest option would be loan him out to a championship club and let him start to really perform on the pitch - the other option being taking up a bid over £1m.

If he leaves, I won't shed a tear - he just hasn't ticked those boxes that would want me to give him another year.

aslong as we get decent money for him then i don't really care.

Will be horrible if he turns out to be brilliant though. We should sell him to QPR because he'll ruin himself in London as someone said earlier

We could have loaned him out but maybe he wasn't progressing the way we were expecting on and off the pitch. Wish him good luck and hope he doesn't score against us if ever we meet again<whistle>

As for assists he got an excellent one right at the end of the season in the Chelsea game when he knocked one back under the cosh from two or three chelsea players for Taylor to nod in. Just a glimpse of what he can do. Maybe there has been another incident since Pardew said his attitude had improved?

Ranger is still very young though. He's 3 or 4 years younger that Carroll. If his baggage is only minimal, and can be kept under control, maybe he'll be worth the effort.

He's 2 years younger than Carroll. Baggage is baggage, but if he's consistently late to training, not putting the effort and having a bad attitude in the eyes of the coaching staff and management then a decision has to be made and it seems its just happened.

I'm guessing that means we are close to a new striker then? Because we only have 4 recognised strikers, Best, Lover, Shola and Ranger - and if he's going then we must have someone coming in, unless we are going to replicate Jan 31st all over again...<whistle>

Apparently we're close to resigning Kuqi as cover for when Ranger leaves
