According to Dai's logic, that person is not allowed to play international sport.

But he wasn't born in any nation, and on a ship is not the same as being on land. Your logic was saying the player had to be born in the nation, it is not the same as being on the ship in the middle of the ocean. In fact, even a British foreign embassy is not truly considered British in another country. The hosting country is still the ultimate owner of the land upon which the embassy is sited upon hence why the UK was going to remove personnel from a certain embassey in London and then demolish the building.... because embassies are on land owned by the hosting nation.

Is that what you think <laugh> did you not learn anything in school, all embassy's are classed as the countries territory while occupied.....all british ships abroad are the same as embassy's when aboard...British...

Not entirely true. Extraterritorial protection of diplomats trumps jus soli laws where they apply, so a Swedish diplomat's child who's born in Britain is NOT eligible for citizenship by birth regardless if in the embassy or not. Likewise, non-citizens (eg a pregnant Brit visiting the US embassy in London) are given only very limited extraterritorial protections within an embassy, so they would be conceived as a British child (jus soli laws then trump others).

For Christ sake what part of where you were born is the country you should only be allowed to play for....what possible reason is there that Rangel has any right to play for wales or any other country other than his own.................The fact is he has no reason and im glad he has been refused and rightly so.....I dont care where your parents or grand parents were born that should never come into it....International sport between two countries has to be players actually born in those countries or what is the point of it all......

Well, before three years ago international sport seemed to have been doing very well and the citizenship rule was in place in the 1800's. So you are happy that the UK is at a massive disadvantage compared to all other nations affiliated to FIFA? This is affectively discrimination.

The simple fact is this. Whatever one's feelings about the rights and wrongs of this issue, Project has made a valid point in that the situation is as it is. In that case, we are at a huge disadvantage because all other FIFA members can benefit from the ruling whilst we can't. The same ruling should apply to all. Either we can all do it or none of us can do it.
