Phil The German isn't Greek. "A member of the Danish-German House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Prince Philip was born into the Greek royal family" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Philip,_Duke_of_Edinburgh
They changed their name from Saxe-Gothe-Coburg (?) or something similar to Windsor didn't they (the Royals)
I hope this has no bearing on your thoughts about Leicester, but you do realise that Gok Wan hails from this great city
I didn't know that. I can tell you he's a friend of my sisters husband and they reckon he's a great bloke, for me he's just a guy patronising fat lasses on the TV (reply to Danger Fox)
Yes but the German link is tenuous. FFS she stayed in this country during the Blitz and even her residence was bombed what more you want. Her Father was born here, her grandfather was born here and so was her great grandmother, Victoria, which is where the German link comes in, ie her marrying Albert.
Only if west ham sack him. What's Peter Reid doing these days? I get the impression he could peel banana's with his feet.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich, was born Prince of Greece and Denmark in Corfu on 10 June 1921. He was born the only son of Prince Andrew of Greece. His paternal family is of Danish descent - Prince Andrew was the grandson of King Christian IX of Denmark. His mother was Princess Alice of Battenberg, the eldest child of Prince Louis of Battenberg and sister of Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Prince Louis became a naturalised British subject in 1868, joined the Royal Navy and rose to become an Admiral of the Fleet and First Sea Lord in 1914. During the First World War Prince Louis changed the family name to Mountbatten and was created Marquess of Milford Haven. Prince Philip adopted the family name of Mountbatten when he became a naturalised British subject and renounced his Royal title in 1947. Prince Louis married one of Queen Victoria's granddaughters. Thus, The Queen and Prince Philip both have Queen Victoria as a great-great-grandmother. They are also related through his father's side. His paternal grandfather, King George I of Greece, was Queen Alexandra's brother. http://www.royal.gov.uk/thecurrentroyalfamily/thedukeofedinburgh/thedukeofedinburgh.aspx
Majority of us in England are Anglo Saxons, who came from Saxony. Which is where? Germany. It's still tenuous and not so clear cut.
Following that logic, the English National team's are all going to need a rehash, not to mention a few more provocative arguments it leads to.
What I don't understand is why lots of gays like feminine men. If you like men I would have thought you would prefer masculine men. Come to think of it, I like boyish women! .... At least I like most other kinds of women, too. I do hate make up on women, though. It didn't exactly make me abstain but I tried to avoid it if possible.
Seemingly not. According to more recent research, the majority have ancestors that were left here when the ice retreated. Angles and Saxons weren't a homogenous lump anyway.
Theres nothing wrong with being German, think that's what I'd try to say really, and I remember Uwe Rosler as being a nice bloke, not sure if he'd be a good choice to manage us though.
There's nothing wrong with being any nationality or race, everyone on this board will have ancestors they didn't know they had
I wouldn't put money on it being a majority, Gola - we're Celt, Gael/Gaul, Norse, Norman French, Hugenot, Jewish, all kinds in the mix. (There are even some Neanderthals on this board...)
