I kind of agree and disagree with Clive on this one. They made significant progress towards forming a decent partnership, but they didn't exactly prove themselves. And no Clive, I haven't taken you off ignore. I am simply reading your messages on this thread because in the first one I decided to read in the last month, you actually made a good point. The point was not about Grayson, before you get ahead of yourself.

am I seriously the only one who thinks he has the qualities of a very good holding centre forward? Does noone agree? Am I being so pioneering and forward in my view that I come across as mad?!

He is effective there, yes. But so is Lloyd Sam. Gradel is effective on the right wing, which would free up the left wing for Aidy White, who is showing great promise. Nunez can play on the wing and so far has presented himself amazingly. Alex Mendy has been causing all sorts of problems pre-season. What I'm basically saying is we want as much quality on the pitch as we can and if that means moving Snodgrass forward to allow another one of our plethora of amazing wingers some gametime, it may be worth the gamble. He definitely has the qualities to do it. He's stronger, quicker, more agile, more flexible and has better vision than Paynter, just because he's so blindingly good on the wing doesn't mean he wouldn't do amazingly well at centre forward. End of the day, it's not like he's ever going to be a goal scoring machine wherever you put him, it's his other talents that make him so good and I personally believe they are well suited to that support centre forward role alongside a marksman.

Marko, good shout mate,Snodgrass to play up front-absolutely brilliant.
He's certainly got the ability to hold the ball up,& maybe if this Alex Mendy joins he could fill Snoddy's vacated position on the right.

It would be an inspired move if it were done and it worked. He'd be far better than Paynter in that role. The only "problem" (if you can even call it a problem) would be he might (perhaps) drift off into a wide position occasionally.

if I really think about it I can't think of anyone else who holds the ball up as well as Snodgrass. It's unbelievable how flexible and talented that guy is. Absolute gem of a player.

His first touch is the best I've seen, you never see him fail to contol the ball, no matter how it's played into him.

If he had pace he'd be world class.

The point Marko was making was that Snodgrass would make a good temporary replacement for Becchio. You don't need pace to be a holding centre forward,& in any case Snoddy's as quick as Becchio.

I think Paynter is rubbish but how funny would it be if he started scoring got a bit of confidence and then we all loved him :)

If he was quick I guarantee he wouldnt have worked on his footwork as much!

Hes only amazingly technically cos he needs to be to get past players

If Snoddy had Gradel's pace he would be playing CL football no problem. Gradel is very talented and was in great form last season but Snoddy has thtat special kind of class you really don't see very often. He's the kind of player who has the mindset and ability to achieve at any level given the opportunity. If we were to move a winger into the lone striker role I'd rather see Mendy do it (if he signs). He's played there before, is 6ft 3 and is a more prolific goalscorer than Snoddy (50 in 136 as compared to 51 in 216).

I've got him on ignore aswell just in case, but it just goes to show that you can win. I think when he realises you're not going to give up he decides not to "wast his time" on you anymore.

By the way, it was me who suggested that Snoddy should play up front, Marko just jumped all over it.
