I don't believe we have that much Simon if I am honest, I just used £3M as an optimistic figure to prove a point.
Another frustrating thing is how the really good Pompey players - Lawrence, Huseklepp and Ben Haim - are being left while we sign the average ones. But I suppose signing them might lead to us actually scoring goals, which is obviously something Warnock's not very skilled at facilitating.
Maybe we already have that winger at the club in Robbie Rogers? I know you've already judged him on his poncey website but how about waiting till we've seen more of him on the pitch and then judging him on his footballing ability. I for one haven't seen enough of him, so instead of dismissing him as 'not good enough' I reserve judgement. Give the guy a chance. Assume he's good enough until he proves otherwise.
Even if he turns out to be a world beater that would still only leave us with 2 wingers including White.
Recipe for disaster. If you make that assumption and it fails, by then it'll be too late and we'll be stuck with no good wingers.
I see what you are saying Essex but when Warnock says we have a replacement in Varney I assume Rogers isn't going to feature too strongly in Warnocks plans. I agree I should give him a chance and I wouldn't allow my personal feelings to get in the way of turning a blind eye to stunning performances
What I meant was I assume Grayson thought he was good enough, otherwise he wouldn't have signed him. I assume Colin thinks he's good enough otherwise he'd have listed him, no probs. So I guess those two guys are judging him on his football ability and not on his surfer boy/ beach bum website.
Actually this one has Gwyn Williams written all over it. Why would Grayson have links with MLS? And let's not forget Williams could sign anyone he wanted whether the manager liked it or not. Grayson never even played the bloke, and he had three chances to do so (Palace, Ipswich, Brum). So I can't agree that Grayson necessarily thought he was good enough. The only thing I remember Warnock ever saying about him is that 'he offers us summat', which was in a radio interview I think after the release of the retained list. High praise, I'm sure. Probably just keeping him as back up - he likes to have about eight or nine strikers/wingers traditionally, doesn't he? Once again, I don't think it points to Rogers being groomed as a first-teamer or particularly being held in high regard. It's true though, I hate his personality and how fragile he's been so far.
No, he's a forward who can play behind the front man or on the wing, and does none of those particularly impressively. If you want to really push it we have 3 wingers at absolute maximum when you want at least 4.
By signing those players you'd have to take on their huge wages, zero value for money and none of those three can be considered marquee signings imo
