Come on, I'm not particularly inspired by this appointment but it isn't as if he is useless. It is big risk but by no means should we just give up. All we can do is give them the benefit of the doubt, get behind the team and hope to be proven wrong!
If it is true that Selles has laid into the squad, causing some to be “visibly upset” and telling them that they have 2 games to prove themselves, I’m not sure that he has done Jones any favours. Unless they are trying to play good cop, bad cop in which Selles is a prick and Jones wraps an arm around the players. I could imagine a seasoned pro telling Jones that if he thinks that then he can **** off and here’s my transfer request for January.
Doesn't sound very pro to me, and if they did that, I'd happily see them sit on the bench till next summer. **** prima Donna players, **** them in their massive egos
We’d struggle to sign anyone any good in that case. I’d imagine most top level players would fit on the prima Donna scale at some level
Where has this idea suddenly come from that our squad is full of prima-donnas with wafer thin skins who can’t take even the slightest hint of criticism? Is it the same place as where this idea that sports republic consider their bargain Turkish second division club as the bigger one in the model comes from? Or the idea that Jones was the cheap option despite there being out of work managers that we could have gone for?
Whilst Jones might not be the cheap option I’d imagine his salary over the length of the contract we give him would be a fair bit less than a more “name” manager, which could make him one of the cheaper options
As for Jones I’m in the wait and see camp. It’s not like we’ve appointed many big “name” managers in the last, what, 15 years, Koeman the only one? The only one to my knowledge in that time with PL experience was Mark Hughes and he wasn’t exactly good. Sure the likes of Poch, Puel and Hassenhuttl all had experience in top flight football elsewhere, but arguably Jones’ record with Luton is as impressive as their achievements when they joined. Could be a good/bad/average appointment, but at this stage nobody knows how it will pan out
This nuance is important - not nuance applied by many for whom he is definitively “the cheap option”. Not even “a cheap option” (which might be being a little pedantic). But “the cheap option”. Which I (rightly or wrongly) read as people meaning “cheapest”
I needn’t have feared, he ended up giving me a pearl necklace. I was really surprised by how big his package was.
Yeah but we won’t ever know for sure either way. Dyche could be wanting £4m a year for example and a multiple year deal
I honestly don't understand how some can be so certain that this will be a disasterous appointment. Jones has done a fantastic job for Luton and has several seasons of experience under his belt unlike say Pellegrino but not in the PL granted. I'm willing to give the man a chance and I would hope the fans support him and the team, this is a clean slate and new era from now.
