No, but we should definitely hope to be a bit more ambitious than 'man who finished top half in the Championship with one club only' especially when you consider the one time he left Luton previously was a total failure.
Well as Luton and Stoke are two of the biggest ****holes in England, I’d see having to live in either of those places as a massive fail tbh. Not convinced we’re getting Nathan Jones, but if we do I’ll assume it’s for a good reason
Nathan Jones may be a good manager. But when teams around you are bringing in managers from Real Madrid and Sevilla, and we look at the guy from Luton that failed at Stoke, regardless of the fans it's not terribly inspiring to the players, who desperately need a lift.
Also, if fans aren't convinced then he's got to deliver from the word go otherwise fans will turn on him very quickly.
We couldn’t attract the same level of manager as Wolves or Villa for obvious reasons. Not saying Jones is the best we can get, but there was no chance we would get an Emery or Lopetegui
Yeah, honestly I think it would be an insane decision. I mean, I'd support him, of course, but man, that would be weird.
I don't know. Possibly not Emery, but Lopetgui would have been possible. Regardless, I think Jones would be a very bizarre move.
Hopefully this comment will come back to bite me, but I’m getting Paul Sturrock vibes with the Nathan Jones link
I'd live stream an OnlyFans session from Sportato. But it isn't going to happen (fortunately for everyone!)
I'll bet no Saints fan has actually watched a game of football in which Nathan Jones has been stood on the touchline.
If you just look at his time with Luton then it would be a decent appointment. He has done wonders, on a tight budget and plays attacking football. But I cant help but feel his time at Stoke should be a warning sign to us.
To me there are 3 options in terms of type of manager we could go after Option 1 would be the safe pair of hands who would (hopefully) steer us away from relegation but probably not so much more than that. Basically Hughes again, someone like Dyche I think would fit this Option 2 would be a young manager who has done well in the lower leagues. Jones obviously fits this. Big risk/reward if they come in and do well Option 3 is a foreign manager with no experience in this country, again a big risk/reward as they’d have to learn the league very fast. All of these options are viable, just have to hope whichever they pick works out. If we were to go for option 1 I’d give the guy the same deal as Hughes where he gets a bonus for keeping us up, but then actually let him leave in the summer
I have, saw Luton get battered by Bristol City 2-0 earlier this season. They were the worst side I’ve seen in ages, including Saints
Borrowed from SAS - spot on overview It’s now official. Ralph is gone. At times we’ve played some brilliant football and been on some incredible runs of form under Ralph, including a brief moment atop the Premier League for the first time ever. Unfortunately bad results over a long period of time, regardless of circumstances, will be the end of any manager. It’s sad the way it’s finished and hopefully this now puts an end to the animosity directed at Ralph. After some of his passionless predecessors it was nice to see a manager fully embrace the club and its fans. There’s no doubting Ralph cared for and loved Southampton. You could see it from his reaction to big wins through to his interactions and time spent with the junior sides, all the way down to Under 8s As much as we would’ve loved for it to work out, the reality is that it hasn’t. We just hope that the new manager is greeted with patience and, more importantly, a player who can put the ball into the back of the fu**ing net (a good run with injuries wouldn’t be too bad either) We’ll save speculation on a new manager for tomorrow, we just felt Ralph deserved a decent and respectful farewell post. Cheers Ralph
