It's strange reading the opinions of the Kreuger interview as I read in to it that there was going to be a discussion about Lallana's future tomorrow. There was a salient comment about developing talent and that players move on, especially when there was interest from other clubs who could offer Champion's League football. I was listening to Radio 5 before lunchtime and in the review of this afternoon's matches they visited Anfield and spoke to Phil Neale. The interview was quite telling as the MOTD were asking him questions about the drafting of new talent . Neale's response was very interesting as he referred to Lallana and agreed with the interviewer's comment that Lallana would make Liverpool more attacking next season. He then made the statement that "Lallana could have chosen to play to a number of other clubs who were interesting in signing him but chose Liverpool and the fact that he is keen to come and play for us is a very positive sign." All the statements made by Neale were in the past tense and the only conclusion you could read in to this was the Adam had already agreed personal terms with them. I don't know what role Neale still has with the club yet anyone listening could have only come to the conclusion that the deal was already done. This view was also expressed by the BBC pundits who appeared to take it for granted that Lallana will be sold to Liverpool tomorrow. It was therefore quite interesting to hear Kreuger's comments in the light of the earlier radio discussion. My assessment of this was that he did not deny that Southampton would not sell and suggested that things move on and replacement players will be brought in. There was nothing in Kreuger's interview that suggested Lallana was staying. The BBC reporters were also clearly aware that there was probably more interest from Liverpool than had been alleged. Did anyone else hear the interview with Neale, I wonder?
Neal hasn't been involved with Liverpool in a professional capacity for years has he? I wouldn't pay any attention to him, he's probably just read the papers uncritically.
Totally agree with you. i think we have something special here. A team which play as a team, no egos, they just get on with it and are overall very young. If MP stays then I think most if not all will also stay for at least 1 more year and with a couple of additions on our day we could beat anyone. Our team has been together for a long time and all get on and enjoy playing together and play some sparkling football. They will just get better but money is the problem as if you can move and double your salary it is tempting. However money is not everything so who knows what the next couple of weeks holds. If we can keep this team together the future is awesome!!
i hope hesketh or sims provide the spark because apart from lallana or lambert we're a bit devoid of one otherwise we're only going to win the passing sideways league.
Strange how everyone puts their own slant on what is said. I took Krueger's comments, about talking to players we want, in the next few days, to mean two things. 1. MP was staying. Why bring in his wish list if he's off? 2. Money for transfers is already available. Regarding Cortese's Champions League aspirations. Were they just sound bite? Wanyama, in a recent interview stated that the team's intention, for this season, was to finish higher than last season. Considering NC was in charge until January, this ambition is miles away from what we are led to believe.
i must have missed the bit linking conversations with selling. i did hear him emphasise targets for incoming transfers though.
He did both. The bit about conversations was related to Adam. He said "everyone knows conversations happen in football"
Here's the audio for anyone who hasn't heard it and wants to. https://audioboo.fm/boos/2152611-saintsfc-chairman-ralph-krueger-talks-to-bigadamsport-after-final-game-of-the-season
I don't see why he finds it so difficult to come right out and say it though. Cortese didn't. He was forthright. He said the Champions League was where we want to be and we will set our plans out to achieve it. That was unequivocal. There was no mystery or confusion. It wasn't management speak, just plain ambition. If they fail one knows they damn well tried. People buy into this attitude big-time. What people don't buy into is waffle. All I'm beginning to hear is waffle.
I can't help it, I just can't. I'm sure Katharina is a lovely, talented person but I keep expecting her to break out into a badly sung ballad with an operatic voice. Check this out to see if they don't go together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt0-EMYnPp0 Actually, I've decided I'm being far too harsh, but I've got it off my chest at last.
Wish he wouldn't sound like he's trying to please everyone. Just say no comment or no sell or yes we're selling. We've had 5 years of zero bull****, and it's hard listening to it again.
TSS, Cortese's era has gone. Let it go. One of the points that a lot of fans didn't like about that era was the lack of communication to the fans. Now the new bloke seems to be trying to communicate more to the fans and he's criticised. Poor bloke can't win.
He isn't really communicating anything of substance, though. Much more of a public presence than Cortese without doubt, but everything he utters is so vague and noncommittal that it makes it seem like he's avoiding giving honest answers that he knows fans do not want to hear.
