It may be pointless to you, but Ms Liebherr probably didn’t find it pointless or penniless... who are we to tell her or any business owner what the point of selling or not selling their shares is?
I've just woke up so not read it yet but is this basically just the vote of confidence is there more to it thn that?
There is a lot more to it than that. A lot more; it’s Ralph. What it means is a different question altogether.
Yep. Top 8 and cup runs should be the aim. You get it, but some don’t. We are one of 14 also ran clubs vying to finish as high up the league as we can. We don’t have a divine right to finish in the top half, it has to be earned and so far this season from the failure to recruit better attacking players to the performances on the pitch AND in the stands (because our support isn’t good enough when the team is struggling) we haven’t earned the right to be in the top 8. Hopefully the removal of VD will herald a better future.
The Southampton way is presently a relegation scrap this season and hope that we are still be in the premier league next season
The mentioning of Villa here is quite apt, because for a while now I've been finding myself comparing us to them. Rewind back to the late 2000s; under Martin O'Neil they finished, I believe, in the top six or seven three years running. They got a taste of the Europa League. They even lost a League Cup final by one goal to Man Utd, with a bad refereeing decision going against them. Sounds a little familiar. But they sold their best players (both under O'Neill, and in the few years immediately after this departure). Milner and Downing went to Liverpool. Barry went to City. Young went to Utd. Collins went to West Ham. The may be others that I have forgotten. But crucially, they were not adequately replaced. Again, sounds a little familiar (including the CB only getting a move to West Ham, whilst his mates get the big boys). Villa muddled along for a bit after O'Neill, after losing those players. As you say, the seemed to accept mid table mediocrity. There was no obvious ambition, and certainly no adequate replacements for the players lost. But you can't stay in mid table for long, not in the PL. You quickly get swallowed up as a relegation battler, as RSS alludes to. Smaller, but often more ambitious, fish emerge from the Championship to take your place. We were that once, so were Swansea. And before too long, inevitably you become one of the sides who drop out the PL completely. And despite the parachute payments, unless you are Newcastle the number of relegated PL clubs who fail to make an immediate return is very high these days.
Not happy with the tone of RK answers that generally didn't actually answer ABs questions which were very pointed and RK struggled The Southampton Way seems dead in the water and we are happy to bibble around mid table because thats where little clubs like us should be and be grateful for that. Not sure he grasps the perilous position we are in with him talking about the possibilities of reaching the European places....really? For the first time I found myself more worried after a RK interview than I was beforehand
Talked a lot and said nothing. It was what he didn't say and his hesitation that speaks volumes. He hasn't a clue what to do, our manager doesn't either and our owners are operating in a very new and different world culturally and business wise and need good people to guide them. Step forward Les. Does he know what to do? Yes of course he does. He will sell Bertrand then we can be one of the richest clubs in the Championship. We could be playing league games against Pompey next season. We didn't see that coming.
It is surprising the number of posters on the Echo site that cannot spell, or deliberately misspell Ralph's surname, as if it will emphasise the message they trying to put across, when all it does is create an impression that they a bit dim.
Basically what he said is too little and too late, just whitewashing over the cracks. He does seem to appreciate that there is a problem. It is what he, the Owners and the Board, does from now on, not what he says, that will make or break us.
No. It's because it's all over the ****ing place. He's talked some mince before but a great deal of that makes no sense whatsoever. Not just in terms of disagreement or contradiction of previously stated goals but in terms of use of language. Or more accurately, a demonstrable failure to utilise it correctly.
Good timing aswell ralph.a couple of hours before a big game, the team need support but i bet that interview has put alot of fans on a downer. I shudder to think what st marys will be like if we fall behind to a goal or two tonight. Still,if we play like we did against man u then we should be ok
