Nobody said it was the public's responsibility. The FA is not "the public". Do you see it being publicly owned? It's a private organisation, just like the NFL is in America.

... I literally have no idea how you could interpret any words I've ever said to mean that. What have I possibly said to give you the conclusion that I'm saying it's "ok to beat up gay people"?

I know some types of people don't like the idea of social responsibility being a thing which exists, but if we're going to idolise footballers (and you've made it very clear you do) then they have to be held to higher standards than the rest of us. With power comes responsibility, and footballers have tonnes of power. And that means it's absolutely correct that if a footballer who kids idolise is caught doing drugs or drink driving or beating up his wife, etc, that he not just be allowed to do some community service and then walk back into his £50,000 p/w piece of piss job. That's a terrible message to be sending to children, and dealing with that is our responsibility, whether you like it or not.

What? Is that what you were saying with the whole "you're advocating attacking gay people" thing? Seriously ... how can you possibly go from "judge not lest ye be judged" to that kind of judgement?

You really don't think footballers are role models to young people?

Often as not, footballers are young people themselves.

No, I'm saying that is what you are saying. If you believe that people have a responsibility to punish public figures whose lifestyle they don't like, YOU are condoning that. Or are people only allowed to persecute people if you agree with it?

Yes ... the plight of those poor woman beaters. Their persecution is every bit as horrific as the persecution of gay people.

You have seriously gone off the deep end. You are supporting wife-beaters. Surely that's a signal to anyone that you've found yourself in the wrong corner?

Ok since this thread has gone MASSIVELY off topic I'm going to lock it for the time being. Maybe in a couple of days I'll re-open it. Somewhat a well intentioned yet comical video can be misconstrued into an argument that had nothing to the OP IDK.
