Alan Hansen and Steve Nicol were always injured when Scotland games came around. Same old Liverpool? THere was a great hue and cry when Fergie left Hansen out of the World Cup squad (Scotland used to qualify!) for Mexico following the death of Jock Stein, but Fergie was right. Why should players pick and choose when they play for their country? And if the manager decides to make a stand over this issue he has to be thick-skinned enough to ignore the flak.

I know somebody who knew Scotty quite well at the time, Chelsea were chasing him hard (and I mean well over the top) his wife had just had their first kid and the Chelsea offer would set him (and his family) up for life.... he then said to his agent that the deal had to be right for Charlton and we did push the transfer fee up to £12m plus Carlton Cole!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With regard to Sterling..... I wonder if he will fresh enough to play 90 minutes against QPR on Saturday and 90 minutes against Real Madrid a few days later?

Liverpool seem to think that England are their Development squad and they should be able to dictate team selection and substitutions..... Woy needs to inform Liverpool that he is the England manager and not a certain Norn Irishman....

Didn't we already have C Cole when Parker left?

If Sterling is tired then Liverpool have to take responsibility, he's pretty much played every minute of every league and even 180 mins in domestic cups. I'd be hugely surprised if he didn't play in both games that you mention.

    Yes, they played together.
I thought at the time we pushed it up from £5m to £10m, but maybe they gave us an extra £2m to take Cole?
