Off Topic Rafa Benitez

He'd become a bit of a journeyman in recent years, and I think he maybe needed the promotion on his CV nearly as much as they needed him to deliver it. They also paid him handsomely for the privilege.

The fact that he's not committed to staying yet is undoubtedly a combination of him waiting to see what his budget will be and whether anything better comes along in the interim.
That was a huge risk though and I don't think for one minute he was thinking of his CV when he said he'd stay.

Which is what he'll need the money for <ok>

At todays barmy rates, they'll need to spend well over £100m to have a decent chance of being anything more than a bottom 6 side in the relegation mix.

The squad they've got now is a mixture of the one that took them down as it wasn't good enough, combined with players bought specifically to get them back up at Championship level.

That was a huge risk though and not a foregone conclusion.
True it was a risk, but that was mitigated by the £55m they gave him to spend, which at that level gave him a great chance.

I was surprised he stayed though tbh, and I admired him for it.

tbh I couldn't even name one of their players, that's how interested in them I am <laugh> I just know any team coming up will need money throwing at it.

But shows its possible and Mike Ashley will have noted it too

Burnley and Bournemouth are maybe a better yardstick in terms of what it costs to become relatively safe in this league.

Leicester was and always will be a freak result.

Wouldn't confirm them as Prem team just yet after them and West Ham being investigated and raided for dodgy tax!
