So regardless, fergie is number one. In good company too. Of course in time he will drop down the list but thats for a future discussion.
Yep but weren't you claiming him out on his own?? And if were being pedantic, Ancelotti has the tie breaker with 3 CL's to his 2
I think it would be war between Rafa and Rodgers. I'm not sure on Rafa as a DoF. His tactical ability and sports science degree would be wasted. He needs to be on the training ground.
I kinda agree. Rafa is a control freak, so a DoF position is perfect for him. Problem is, he'll argue with the manager and staff, and anyone else who disagrees. And as you say, his tactical nous and perfectionism are second to none, so having him out on the training field is where he operates well.
personally i couldn't care less if he is a control freak. if he was and didn't achieve much fair enough, could be seen as a bad thing, but a manger who got the better of the top 2 teams in spain and got us to 2 european cup finals in 5 yrs of his time with us, he can have all the ruddy control he likes.
This happens from time to time, see Atletico last year, teams are not always on top of their game and sometimes people benefit from this
Would he have wanted to sell Alonso had he been allowed to buy without selling...? That was the point of reconn's post
What makes you think he'd get the first choice players? We didn't get first choice players with Rodgers (Henri Ryan, Willian, Costa). Just because we don't have H&G and Parry at the top doesn't mean Rafa would suddenly be able to bring in his first choice players.
True. We know Rafa had the pull to get the top players though since he signed the likes of Reina, Arbeloa, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, etc. Rodgers as never signed a top player (unless you can't Sturridge and/or Coutinho) but under the current ownership and structure, is he able to offer terms that would encourage such a player. If the latter is the case, then you may well be right about Rafa too.
What is it with you mancs when it comes to discussing Rafa? It's quite clear to all and sundry that he has a high rep with the vast majority of our supporters. Yet somehow that appears to engender an arrogant "you're all wrong - let me tell how it really is" response from you Mancs. What's the point? Just as we are never going to accept that Ferguson was the greatest thing since slice bread, we can accept that you have a different view but why do you need to come here and trumpet your opinion on Rafa when you know it's only going to provoke and argument rather than a discussion?
Love this sell to buy ****. So a top manager would sell one of his best players to buy someone worse? If you are in a sell to buy position you sell to buy better surely? You don`t sell a class A player to buy 2/3 class C players (Rafa), what is the point of thickening the squad and weakening the team.
At the time Alonso had come off back of 1 1/2 average seasons where as Barry was playing well for villa and had teamed up well with Gerrard for England (and they were good friends). Now it seems silly but at the time who knows. Barry did pretty well for Ciry in their star studded team.
