All legacies are gone the moment the person who achieved them leaves. Shearer scored more goals for us than anyone has scored for a single club in premiership history. That became historical trivia the moment he retired. SBR and KK had great runs in their day. Their days are over. If you are only going to talk about legacies that have effect after their maker has gone, the only one who springs to mind is Ashley. He got the club on a financially even keel and is likely to leave us on an even keel. That is solid. Glory shines brightly but burns out instantly.
If that was true then the word shouldn’t exist. Agreed the on field ones probably do but things like good training facilities, a good scouting system, academy structure etc are all things that a manager can pass on with the support of a good owner.
Is it? It won't be a lasting legacy though will it? If his legacy he managed to restore pride for all the time he was here, it would in terms of historical significance of the club, be very very small. I think he'd like a legacy, hence the desire to improve the club infrastructure to serve us long into the future. For me personally a short term legacy is just papering over the cracks.

I'd say Shearer's legacy is still firmly intact. Indeed that will remain with the club to the end of time - in the same Jackie's will. SJH and KK can certainly point to the development of the stadium as a lasting legacy. SJH had the plans for a very look legacy for him and KK but it all came crashing when the partnership was broken. SJH never really sealed the deal with the whole Newcastle Sporting Club encompassing all manor of sports. Being honest I'm not sure Bobby left much of a legacy. Like KK he only lasted 5 years which unlike a player, is quite a short period. Obviously both delivered good football and European adventures but in terms of a lasting effect, I can't really pinpoint anything. Neither Bobby nor KK resolved the youth system issues and general infrastructure. Was it down to them or the chairman not allowing them? I suspect it was down to the manager rather than getting my black and white geps on and pretending two club legends could do no wrong. Managers legacies though are probably not really theirs at all - its a joint legacy in the main because without the support of a chairman, their efforts will be a bit futile. Of course a legacy can be eroded by others not respecting it too. Man U have experienced that after SAF. He left a lasting legacy that will be with the club forever more. However some of the basic structures, particularly around transfers and types of players, have been eroded and they've paid a hefty price.
