A statement from the club said: "Wigan Athletic Football Club are angered by racist abuse received on the personal Twitter account of one of our players, Nathan Byrne, on Saturday afternoon.

I assume that as Nathan Byrne scored the equaliser that this was linked to that. So some pathetic racist idiot has tarnished our club by sending that tweet.

I hope the police find who it is and they are prosecuted. Also then the club needs to issue a life ban. There is no place in society for this.

From a football perspective - you have to accept that sometimes teams score against you. Nathan Byrne had an excellent game at right back, and his goal topped-off that performance,

This racist news has been all over the news media this morning, we've had the BBC, Sky, Talksport, even Bristol Post,, I have read responces and reports from Tottenham, Brentford, Wigan,Northhampton and Derby all dealing with this **** situation, I looked on the official Bristol City site to see a denial or a reaction from our club, nothing, absolutely bare of information at 10.00am.

Where is our PR people, what are they doing, it's disgusting, lazy and shows a total ignorance of the situaton, if someone of importance is reading this thread can they kick some ass of the little snots in our PR department and tell them to awaken.

BRISOL CITY FC's NAME IS BEING BESMIRCHED.

It was a Man Utd fan who tweeted because him scoring ruined his accumulator on a bet.

All the reports say is following his goal against Bristol City, so not really an accusation that it came from a city fan.

Thanks for that, it's the implication that could be assumed because we played them yesterday, a total denial should be issued, our total condemnation of racism stated,.

Let the bloody world know where we stand on this poisonous, festering matter.

Regrettably it's an issue that will never disappear because you can't legislate stupidity no matter how hard you try. People with this outdated and reviled trait deserve whatever comes their way in the way of retribution, but unfortunately they generally get away with their evil deeds. Public awareness and reporting would go a long way towards reducing the incidences but the answer and resolution needs to go to extraordinary lengths if it is to succeed.

When I hear the likes of players such as Danny Rose, and many others, complaining about the treatment and abuse they endure during their time on the pitch it makes my blood boil. Is it any wonder why players such as Danny want their careers to end to give them freedom from racial abuse, because if that is their only way out of the crisis, it is the saddest condemnation of this situation especially when you consider what they have brought to the game we love.

STOP IT NOW!!!!!

IM REALLY GLAD HE LOST HIS BET that and any further action against him will be a just end to such evil behaviour...
hopefully it was mega thousands and not just a fiver ...

It’s raising its head again, and not helped by Tommy marches and people believing that everyone is here to take our country.

Where is the link? Not my thing but the lads who attend from Bristol, City and Gas are drawn from differing backgrounds including non white. The Bristol (City fan) organiser has a black wife originally from Kenya and a mixed race son. The speakers at rallies are drawn from different races and faiths.

Nailed it mate. If they were to walk off the pitch if it occurs then fair play to them.

Sorry to see that you guys have been associated with this one.
It is sickening that one asshole can besmirch a club and a City's name with this totally unacceptable behaviour.

Not really sure how 'associated' we are on this.
A 20 year old man from Sheffield has handed himself in at a Blackpool police station.

This is what I wanted to see Bristol City FC, it states the facts, well done, first class.
