Di Canio says he's not one... but why was he at the funeral of an Italian fascist bomber? Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nds-funeral-fascist-bomber.html#ixzz2PReTaTvg Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook
I'll be careful what I say as I don't want to come across as a hypocrite but re: Di Canio there are massive double standards here. When at Swindon he was "a great, young, up and coming manager" now all of a sudden he's a "fascist". Why only the concern about his political views now? If he's a racist then by all means single him out but he shouldn't be singled out for his political views, not by the press anyway. Communist regimes have been responsible for more deaths than Fascism/Nazism could only dream of, not sure why some political views can be tolerated yet others can't, it just seems like bigotry to me. One of the big problems I have with this media campaign against discrimination is the disingenuity about it, today on Sky News I heard a middle class "expert" try to say homophobic abuse (and all forms of football abuse) was purely working class on working class. Just recently Rio Ferdinand has used racism a smokescreen to cover up for his own deceit and from that England fans have been smeared as racist and right wing fascists. Racism and Homophobia is now becoming a weapon to smear people with rather than genuine concern about the issue. Democracy is one of the biggest myths in Western Society, the fact Di Canio is being targeted by the press because of his political view to the extent where he's now apparently denied it proves this. And before we get on our moral high ground we should remember the evils committed by the West/UK. Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, The brutality dished out by the Black and Tans in Ireland, the Opium Wars, slavery etc. Hitler was a nutcase but we've had our fair share. Football is part of the entertainment industry, it isn't public sector for instance. Live and let live
Did anyone actually believe that I was serious with that post? Sunderland are going to become Blackshirts and adopt the British Union of Fascists flag as their emblem? That they're going to get the old SS uniform designer to do their kits? Bid of a sense of humour failure there, I think. I've read his statement. I've also seen his actions and his tattoo that's a tribute to Mussolini, who he claims was misunderstood and hails as a patriot with solid morals. If he's had a change of heart and abandoned the vicious philosophy that the Ultras of Lazio espouse, then he needs to say so, not merely issue a blanket denial. No. When someone else in football starts making similar claims about mass-murdering, torturing dictators, then I'm sure people will feel similarly negative. Are you expecting John Terry's autobiography to make some statements about Enoch Powell being a lovely geezer or something?
But why only the concern now? If there was genuine concern in the press about his political views then there would have been an outcry long ago, before he had even stepped foot in Swindon in fact. If I thought the press had genuine concerns about racism/fascism i'd understand the scrutiny a bit more. Ron Atkinson racially abused Desailly publicly yet despite his media exile is still talked about in a fond manner. We know the media was fond of O'Neill but this just seems like sour grapes because another foreign manager got a job at the expense of a British manager.
As the so called neo-liberals have a field day across the world exploiting and creating chaos to feather their own nests, exploiting helpless people everywhere, we are concerned with a football manager expressing dubious views from the fringes of politics. I would suggest you turn your attentions to real concerns and avoid being sucked in by media smoke screens.
Speaking as a neo liberal, I will always detest fascist dogma and I will always be antagonistic towards people that support that cause. Personally I wouldn't object to DiCanio being a manager in the Premier League (as DL says, it was not an issue at Swindon, so it is a media storm whipped up for their own purposes), but I'd be very wary of him, and how he conducts himself over the next year will be closely scutinised and quite rightly so. The shame is that he was a player I liked very much. By the way DL, Nazism is a form of fascism, in the same way Stalinism is a form of Communism. Fascism is extreme Nationalism which will always lead to Racism, it's the logical conclusion of the theory. Mussolini eventually started imprisoning Jews, although that's not how he started out. The same is not true of Communism, you can be a decent human being (possibly not a clever one) and a Communist. You cannot be decent and a Fascist. Thank **** he is not the Tottenham manager, I really feel for Mackems that object to him. It must be an awful quandry. EDIT: note to self, don't use words you only think you understand. I am not a Neo Liberal, more a liberal (with a distinct lower case l)
Fascism, Stalinism, Neo-Liberalism, Nationalism, State Capitalism (Communism) are all out the same pot. Exploitation by elites. SpursDisciple I note your edit, with some relief I always had you down as a decent poster.
Personally, I abhor extremism of any kind. By it's very nature it is exclusive, it's brooks no opposition, and is unerringly dogmatic. For me that means left wing, right wing, religious, any form of doctrine that will listen to no alternative to their agenda.
i don't even know what half the stuff you are all talking about is, its way over my head. I like everybody, but not as much as cake. I like to keep it shimples. Also, religions, not a clue about any of them. Some might call me ignorant, but i'm an equal opportunity ignoramous so nobody can complain. I don't even know what i am, its one of the ones that begins with 'A' but not sure what its called.
Not bothered. I'm quite proud i've got to my age without knowing or caring about any of it. I think it makes me quite tolerant of everybody. I even did R.E. at school. I can't remember any of it. I think it was a mixed R.E/Art class so i spent most the time drawing.
