I went to Doncaster primarily because of the hype to see if Kingsbarns was the next wonder horse. It turned out to be a very disappointing race, as Trading Leather was the first one beaten and a line through the reliable yardstick Steeler does not appear to make this a great race. After only two races, Kingsbarns could still be anything so not much was learned.
Armchair ride for young Joseph but this could turn out to be another St Nicholas Abbey rather than another Camelot. If Kingsbarns is working well in the spring, stand by for the lame excuses for packing Camelot off to stud.
I will not be rushing off to snap up the 8/1 for The Derby or the same odds for the 2000 Guineas.
QM,I have never actually watched either show even though I do a bit of Latin dancing on the quiet!...usually out of a Saturday evening but I do agree that people have been committed for lesser offences!
Agree re Kingsbarns...AP prices are insulting.
He beat a much better field than his two stable mates and did travel and quicken like a good horse...a fact highlighted by Richard Hughes.
However,I'd be surprised if there won't be a better 3-y-o colt lurking somewhere.

Doonan brave man. You really think O'Brien puts him away for the year after winnig a Dundalk maiden. Problems that horse has had my friend.
Dexter, I do not watch Strictly or X-Factor or any of that “reality” sort of stuff. I do not dance either, but as I watch Match Of The Day they will have to toss a coin to decide which of us to drag away to the funny factory first.
My suspicion is that we need to be trawling through those once-raced maiden winners from Leicester, Nottingham and Warwick for next year’s Derby and Oaks winners. Unless Certify is not just a very forward two year old.
MARS not for me whatsoever. Kingsbarns has proved much more than the Dundalk maiden winner and won nicely on Saturday. However he wasn't against a vintage field. The Hannon horse is at least 2nd or 3rd string in their classic hopes IMO-I think Richard Hannon might have himself good shots at both a Guineas AND Derby for once next season. Wentworth is clearly a nice, nice type. He shaped like he would stay over 1m but his breeding tempers my enthusiasm so I have him for the Guineas instead, whilst TORONADOS might be one to stay the Derby trip and give High Chapparal a big chance of English Classic glory as a sire. Just something about those two that struck me as not just your normal 2 year olds from Richard Hannon and are above average.
Mars has been galloping all over every 2 year old ! Yes he has problems with his foot/feet but he also needs rattling fast ground .I wouldn't be surprised to see him finish 5-8th in the guineas if he even goes that route he is more a ballysax horse and then go onto swoosh the derby and then onto the 1m2f races people shouldn't write this horse off as he has only had one run !
No one is writing him off. He looked good on debut but as I say you wouldn't catch me backing a horse at 10/1 for the Derby after winning a Dundalk maiden and then being put away for the season because of problems.
RV no one is asking you to back him ! Kinfsbarns is 4-1 mars is 10-1 I would know what horse I would be backing
Mick is spot on here about Mars being the best Derby horse for AOB..Kingsbarns won well enough but was pushed out to do so albeit against better opposition than Camelot ,who just cruised home effortlessly in last years race and remains the best AOB has ever had....and with a better ride may have been another Triple Crown winner also !
Meanwhile,bring them all on....no AOB horse or any other for that matter will deny Dawn Approach in next years Guineas,,,he has a far better temperament than his dad...with just as much ability !

Dawn approach looks unbeatable in the guineas but there looks to be a few real good 2 year olds !

He will stay further than a mile,according to Jim Bolger,and he has certainly never been stopping at the end of his 7 furlong races so far !
The same doubts were expressed about New Approach and he ended up winning the Derby in sensational style and a faster time than Sea The Stars on similar going !
...and in a slower time than the great Workforce before he was easily brushed aside into third place by that world beater DOM and the G3 starlet Phoenix Tower in the Juddmonte.
HTN also put NA firmly into a category to which he belonged in two Classics.
Second best.
