I am only examining the argument. I don't really believe that.

    <laugh> Typical Paddy...always wanting a fight!

I agree with you in many ways, but I think councils would, if they sold them for real estate, use the money not to fund community based projects but to plug the gap in their budgets.

There has to come a time where councils consider it for any purpose just because a library doesn't necessarily fulfill their purpose any more. I don' have a firm opinion, I am just exploring.

I still use my local library <ok>

    Its ****ing free FFS.

You can check online where a certain book is, so if it isn't at your local one you can order it to be delivered there for a certain day.

I do believe they have fallen behind with technology asbooks are slowly becoming less popular with the internet a good source of information & the ability to download things on to computers, Kindles etc but theystill play an important role in many peoples lives.

My son & his school have a book from the library once a week to help his reading (he's 5). I also take him there & he picks up books about creatures, witches, dinosaurs - things he wishes to know more about & read himself in a book catered for him & his age group which he can take in the facts & is enjoyable.

I prefer his learning this way then becoming another 'google child' who believes anything on the internet <ok>

To update a library to be relevant now would cost millions & millions, they need to scale back on what they are doing but still should remain open.

The people who piss me off are the ones crying about the local library shutting down but never using the ****ing thing. Same as Woolworths. If every **** who cried over Woolworths shutting actually shopped at the overpriced ****hole it'd still be ****ing open <ok>
