OK. I thought it may have something to do with "Big Brother" or spying ? I will go to it when it opens regardless. Anything with Alan Rickman or Morgan Freeman in it is worth a view. I had to watch Die Hard again over the weekend. +++++++++++++++++ Sad. Liked this show in my youth. R.I.P. Grizzly Adams. please log in to view this image
That film I mentioned was remade a few years later under the name of "Cold Eyes" and both are well worth a look if you can put up with the subtitles. I am a little amazed that this film wasn't remade in Hollywood as it is really first class.
I heard he came on for the encore OR was that just for one show of the tour ?? Very sad news. Another legend passes on. R.I.P. Glenn Frey - Heaven is waiting for you.
Makes sense that. Sad as I liked Mott the Hoople back in the 70's in my youth. The last time I saw Ian Hunter sing ALL THE YOUND DUDES was at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert back in april 1992 when Bowie played the sax with Mick Ronson on lead guitar. A great version.
Griffin on drums, Lemmy on bass, Frey on guitar and Bowie on guitar and vocals. That's one helluva gig they're having...
I see the second most read article on BBC News right now is the death of a certain much-loved comic actor... from November 2010. So no doubt he'll pop up on here soon...
Yes, and it was a Monday night 12th November 1973 I've still got the ticket stub. All The Way From Memphis was still out and Roll Away The Stone was just about to be released. However, I missed Queen as the support act, as my friends's older brother, who was driving, got us their late after getting stuck in traffic. Ironically, I became a fan of the very early Queen after I heard their debut single Keep Yourself Alive on Radio Luxembourg as the PowerPlay! (remember the PowerPlay?) just the week before the release. I ordered the first single in July 73 literally the day after that. I remember going into Regis Records on Holderness Road and asking for a record by Queen, and a slightly older woman behind the counter said in a loud and rather dismissive manner ''by who?''. You'd have thought that I'd taken a dump on the counter. Needless to say it had to be ordered! It duly arrived the day of official release 6th July. I saw Queen in 75, 79 and 82. I thought they lost it after that. Going back to the Mott gig, to be honest I don't recall too much of it apart from been thrilled at hearing Dudes, Walking With A Mountain, Honaloochie Boogie (my favourite MTH song), All The Way From Memphis and Roll Away The Stone. It was only the second serious gig I'd ever been too (I was only 13) and frankly, I'd have been impressed with anything. Mind you, I do remember it being feckin' loud with on stage feedback issues; getting crushed near the stage and being half asleep at school most of the next day! Happy days...
I would have loved to have seen that, I'm well jealous Tickles. All The Young Dudes is one of my all time favourite songs and Bowie and the Spiders from Mars were my absolute musical heroes.
I'm a bit younger then you LT but of the same generation. Music was such an important part of our lives back then. And of course when you hear an old song from that era it brings back some fantastic memories. I feel sorry for youngsters today, modern music is **** and when they grow older they won't be able to look back with fondness at their younger days the same way we do. Maybe we were just lucky to be growing up during the golden age of rock music.
The thing is as my Mrs says, fashions & fads go round & it really is a matter of time before good music comes back. When I refer to good music, I'm meaning real musicians playing real instruments! Getting rid of Simon Cowell & other reality shows will be a start, by the way it looks, their popularity is dropping quickly. It'll take time but will return, not in the same size of gigs & music sales, that'll never come back. There are more bands trying to get success & more coming into the limelight.
I hope you're right but the zeitgeist of that period (political unrest, embryonic liberal values, etc) will never be repeated.
