NP has to cull this squad maybe keep four or five and the rest can go.They simply are not good enough. The Crown Jewels were sold and replaced with players no where near as good. NP knows they ain’t good enough but he can’t come out and say that to the public. The scary problem is as said in previous posts this job is a monster of a job just hope NP sees it through.
Ok, well you, RP and RR must be really pleased how NP sets us up every game, the team selections, tactics, the formations, the substitutions and the style, which is counter attacking, even though we fail in defending.. because you blame our poor players for not being consistent.. surely if he doesn’t get it right then the players have no chance.. personally, I don’t see how NP has got the best from the players that we have. I mean, he supposed to be the much better and more experienced manager than we had in the past.. . I even worry that even with players brought in, in January, it will make any difference.. but that’s my opinion and to you, it doesn’t count..
Out of the ones already gone in the summer (weirdly missed by some on here) only Paterson is doing anything close to spectacular, but hey he started like that with us, the rest are carrying on the form that saw them all go to lower division clubs and they are struggling to find their level there. Some on here seem to be applying the Jehovah's witness logic to certain players who have been serially poor since they arrived, but like the date for the end of the world put back another year because they might by some miracle actually come good or that a bright star will appear above a stable somewhere in the world and inside will be mysterious turd polisher who will make them consistent. Even though 3 managers and god knows how many coaches have failed in that regard so far. Most of us fully accept that things are worse now than they have ever been, but others fail to accept despite overwhelming evidence that this has been 2 years in the making and the irony is 7 of the leftovers from that period started against Coventry and 3 more were on the bench. The way I see it I would say those to be allowed to definitely leave should be:- Wells, Vyner and Palmer and hopefully in January. DaSilva, Bakinson and ODowda told to shape up or ship out in the summer. And 2 of Pearson's signings Simpson (who ain't good enough) and King (who is struggling with fitness) should be let go as well. I have also read some guff about our spend compared to other teams, I will take 2 teams Luton who we struggled against earlier in the season they signed 13 players, that is not a cheap exercise, Coventry who beat us with 10 men spent almost the same as us on their striker from Brighton along with a further 11 players. We spent 1.5mil on 2 players and brought in a further 2 players in King and James, technically Simpson was already here and are relying on senior serial flops, no wonder we are in the **** FFS.
What is happening is no different to what started to happen 2 years ago, we are playing the same system, we are chopping and changing systems, selections etc. LJ's classic "I will have to select players that I can trust" line, oh yeah the same players you couldn't trust last month. I am struggling to see your logic, LJ and Holden and all of their coaches could not get the players mentioned (who should be match winners) to play with any consistency (as their stats clearly show) but you expect Pearson to do so, I repeat I don't see a manager yet born who could do what you are asking. I blame poor players because although we are not playing well as a team their individual mistakes have cost us enough points for us to be close to a play off place, Vyner made the same mistake in both of our last 2 games, of instead of being strong and holding his ground whilst grappling with an attacker, he stepped forward in front of the player and both times it resulted in a goal against us. Do you honestly believe that he wasn't told that that was a mistake the first time it happened? and yet he does it again in the next match, I really don't know what else you can do with players who keep making the same mistake at a rough estimate I would suggest that Vyner has cost us 4 to 5 goals this season so far, coaching ain't working with him. Add to that missed chances especially our 5mil 1 goal striker, misplaced lazy passes by defenders and midfielders and crazy decision making trying to see games out, all individual mistakes, no coach can stop that whilst it's happening and if they still make the same mistakes after hours on the training ground, I think the problem lies with them. Opinion is great but occasionally needs to be backed up with facts and the facts are that the 3 player Wells, Palmer and ODowda have been shockingly inconsistent since they arrived under 3 different managers and loads of coaches and that still persists now, 1 good game in 6 or 7 games where they might affect a game is not good enough, but you blame one man for not being able to make them consistent. I know that the manager always pays the price, LJ and Holden know that and Pearson even more so, but it's players that get managers sacked 99% of the time.
So you think that NP is applying the right tactics etc to get the most of what we’ve got? I believe the style we play..i.e counter attacking does not suit the players he picks week in week out. RG says we are looking to be a pressing team.........I've not seen it once this season, especially on the rare occasion we go a goal up..........IMO...our tactics are so wrong, which must come from the dugout.....but then the players from the past gets the blame......nah I'm not having it...
I think just like LJ and Holden, he has tried everything with this set of players and it ain't working, what he has done is absolutely the same as the 2 sacked managers, at some stage we have to look beyond the manager and focus on the glaringly obvious or of course we can bring in another guy who will also fail and then maybe the penny will drop. What you do not address is that form of Wells, Palmer and ODowda has been poor since their arrival and has gotten steadily worse still, they should be match winners and they rarely if ever are and Vyner is casually shocking. You ran your own business, what would you do with employees who continually made glaring mistakes? and even after advice and retraining over 2 years, were still making the same mistakes? How much longer do we wait for those 4 and several others to actually become consistent?
Ever thought NP don’t think they can do what you are asking. Simply put the majority of this squad is not good enough for a top 10 never mind top 6 finish.
I would not stick with the same tactics, which doesn't work for any of the players, let alone the ones your referring to.. I personally don't think the likes of Palmer or O'Dowda have had enough game time this season to say they have gotten worse.....(I'm not talking past) The set up is not right IMO.....NP doesn't seem to have a plan B or C and just sticks with what we have................which is not working Not sure, why you are intent bringing LJ & DH into the discussion.. I'm just asking if you think NP's tactics are right for the players we have..
I am bringing our 2 ex managers into the discussion because they are pertinent to what has happened and is ongoing, but obviously something that does not suit your agenda. Wells, Palmer and ODowda were wholly inconsistent for them and are continuing that inconsistency now, the tactics are the same used by LJ and Holden, exactly the same and as you keep hanging onto occasionally those tactics worked/work, we do not have the players fit enough or consistent enough to change that system, we have no wide players worthy of the name, once more LJ and Holden found out absolutely the same. Palmer has played a part in over one third of our games and has been poor in most of them for a return of 1 goal and zero assists, ODowda got himself injured 10 minutes into the new season when instead of burying a gilt edged chance his piss poor control meant the Blackpool keeper could stop said gilt edged chance has been involved in over one third of games as well and has zero goals and zero assists.
So you think that NP is setting us up to get the best from the players available to him? Simple question
You want me to answer your question when you never answer anybody else's questions ever. But my answer is simple he is setting them up simply in the same way that LJ and Holden set them up, I cannot think of any other way we could set up given the squad that we have. So my question to you is, how would set them up given some of the dummies he has available? and please don't suggest Wells as a midfielder, I am still getting over the pain from laughing so hard last time you suggested it, he is lazy enough as a striker, I can't wait for your answer but won't hold my breath.
Straight away, I wouldn’t set up my team to sit back and counter attack. I would from the off insist on high press, high energy, close down their defenders not allowing time for teams to build from the back. Not to let opposition settle.. because there’s me thinking NP was upping our fitness from past coaches.. you can laugh all you like regarding Wells and you could well be right.. but it’s an option, rather than pursuing with tactics that has been proved to fail on several occasions. I would do as you say and keep Weimann up front as he has not only the energy required for the game plan, plus he’s one of our only hopes of scoring.. I would use ODowda & Palmer more, I would also give Massengo a free role in the middle. Without Williams it’s the case of needs mist and juggling the middle. I really think we have enough to be better and perform better than we have.
1. We tried the high press earlier in the season and it never fully worked. It was changed to counter attacking for the Cardiff game. Used again for the Preston, Luton and Forest games but in two of those games costing us 5 points due to those pesky individual mistakes. The loss of Massengo never helped in that regard and the forced introduction of Bakinson in midfield can only possibly mean counter attacking, he don't do high energy high press. 2. Wells in midfield is not an option IMHO he is far too lazy. What makes you believe that ODowda and Palmer will perform exactly like they have ever since arrived? which is less than patchy. 3. I wouldn't give anybody in midfield a free role, they are not disciplined enough, the midfield needs to be far more organised. The only option for a free role when fit is Semenyo, unlike Massengo he actually scores and creates. Massengo needs to do what he is best at winning the ball back. Again on what evidence do you claim that we have enough to perform better judged on the past 2 years? Your vision is admirable but we lack the players to create that vision. PS:- There are two questions for you to answer in my reply. This IMHO this is our best 11 players, but I still don’t see them as a particularly strong team. And at present 4 of them are injured. They need to be far more disciplined, stop trying to play the ball out of defence every time and if it needs row Z give it row Z. The defence needs protecting by a midfielder at all times and if Tanner and Pring are forward trying to achieve the much needed width, James and Massengo need to sit in and not bomb forward, especially Massengo whose has not got a lot of previous for supplying assists or scoring. When defending set pieces, Semenyo should be left on the halfway line to tie up 2 defenders and if those set pieces or other attacking moves by the opposition breakdown the midfield to need move out much quicker to support whoever is upfront. In the January window, we need a proper 6ft + target man, another midfielder who can actually organise (we are still ill disciplined in midfield, nobody seems to organise and prevent midfielders being caught out ahead of the ball) we are too quiet and lacking leaders. And we need another right back and maybe a couple of loaners. If we can unload Wells, Palmer and Vyner to free up their wages, then that would be a win, win for me. And change the captain to an outfield player. Bentley Kalas Atkinson Baker James Tanner Massengo Pring Semenyo Martin Weimann
On your first question.. I believe they don’t become and are not bad players overnight. Working out what makes them tick or perform more consistently maybe something simple, slightly adjusting style maybe one of them .. down to a decent coach / training to work it out.. your 2nd question, I don’t necessarily have evidence, but it can’t help with disruption of changing managers, the CEO, etc, clean slate with a proven manager should have provided better performances than what we’ve had.. I’m concerned if I’m honest that Nige has the modern techniques within to turn us around, in fact I’m not quite sure exactly what identity we are aiming for, I’m quite lost what style of football Nige is all about.. I understand your idea of a 6ft plus striker, but for me only as an option or plan b.. the problem it leads to is the Adebola long ball game that for me ruined GJs reign.. of course thats imo..
This hasn't been overnight this has been since all 3 arrived, so in short LJ, Holden and Pearson + god knows how many coaches are not decent coaches?, it's all their fault and not the players? Sorry you are so wrong here and there is no basis of evidence whatsoever to hold this opinion, as I said earlier perhaps the penny will drop if we bring in another manager and yet more coaches or will it be the managers and coaches fault again? I found this online today, it's an authentic collectors Harry Potter wand, probably SL's cheapest solution? As for your 2nd answer, you cannot have it both ways, you complain there is no plan B and then put up an argument against it. Let's put it this way a) if it keeps us up then it's worth it. b) if it's becomes a success then that's a plus. And most importantly had we made the right signing eg Michael Smith who scored in both games against us last season and beat the crap out of us in both games and has scored 12 goals in 14 games so far this season, I believe IMHO even playing as badly as we have, we would be at least 5 points better off and probably not having this discussion. Another question is not adjusting our style the reason that our 5mil striker has already missed a hatful of chances so far this season?
