    how many times have you?

I have no doubt that he's exactly what people say, but he won't get in the team in the league.

sorry if you find that boring PNP, and if I'm wrong and he proves to be our crackerjack secret weapon then I'd be the happiest bunny in the box

I would have thought that was pretty obvious (I haven't like most Spurs fans) Hence my comment we need to look out for him. Unlike you however I am not ready to write off players I have not seen which is a pretty stupid thing to do whichever way you look at it. Be controversial by all means, take an opposite of view, fine, but at least base it on observation rather than just predjudice.

I find it boring because it's just rampant negativity for no reason, OODB.
I'm sure you've noticed that I'm perfectly willing to debate any real points that you bring up, no matter how much I may disagree with some of them, but you're just writing off a player without ever seeing him play.

I'm not suggesting that he's the answer to our prayers, by any means, but people that have seen him play seem to believe that he's an exciting prospect.

No prejudice - observation of previous policy by our management team, no more, no less.

How many 16 year olds has Harry blooded in the first team?
How many of our 'reserves' have made the step up from that position to our first team squad without at least a period out on loan to Ipswich or some such place?
How often has one of the youngster we've snapped up as the 'next big thing' worked?

And yes, I can be negative, more than most PNP, I admit that but an exciting prospect as a youngster (GDS, Taarabt, Bostock, etc) and Spurs never seem to mix

Redknapp sends youth players out on loan to test them, OODB.
He did it with virtually all of West Ham's mob, with the exception of Joe Cole.

How many young signings have worked?
Lennon, Huddlestone, Dawson, Sandro, possibly Rose and definitely Bale.

    To test them? ok

So he won't be anywhere near the first team for a while then.

And in all probability harry will be out the door next summer,
a new manager will come in and he'll not be his choice and not an established first teamer so will probably be frozen out

    unless he does something exceptional

but he was cheap, so DL can move him on and make a net profit in a couple of years...

    yes?

And funny thing about thoses signings you mentioned, majority of them are 'home' nation players and the other's a Brazilian national team player...

I hope I'm wrong by the way, but its the way I see things under DL's stewardship

As I said, Redknapp has made an exception in the past.
I wouldn't expect him to break through for at least a year, though.
    Probably more.

Why would any new manager automatically freeze out a prospect?!
If he does well in the youth side, then you'd expect anyone coming in to at least have a look at him.

So the signings I mentioned are British, apart from the one that isn't?
    Erm, ok.

By that I meant that they were acclimatised to the english leagues. And so were more likely to succeed in them.

And Brazilians seem to succeed whereever they go.

New managers do tend to want to bring in their own talent PNP, and they are more likely to get rid of a fringe/reserve player who can bring in quick cash on a profit than an establised fan favourite from the first team.

They may have been used to living in this country OODB, but none of them are from London, none of them was a regular first team player and none of them were proven in the Premier League.

Brazilians succeed, but quite a number fail.
Look at the player who Sandro has basically usurped in the Brazil squad, Denilson.
He's been sent back and the Goons hate him.

A new manager would be far more likely to ship out someone who would bring in a decent fee, in my opinion.

Bale 40 games, Lennon 38, Huddlestone 95... not exactly irregular for their teams were they?

Time will tell on Denilsons tenure, in hindsight they may miss him more now...

And a decent fee surely would be comparative to the price we paid?

Bale had one season with Championship Southampton and Lennon had two half seasons with Leeds, mainly in the Championship, though Huddlestone was more established than I realised at tier 2 Derby.
We paid less for all three than Man Utd paid for Smalling, though.

I have to agree with the Goons about Denilson.
What was he supposed to be, exactly?

A small fee would be pointless, though.
Managers want to bring in their own players, which requires real money.

A number of small fees for fringe players whilst not cutting into the recognised first team would enamour the manager to the players and the fans, whilst retaining stability but also allowing 1 or 2 big players to be brought in?

And denilson was a breaker-up of play, a holding midfielder I think - in other words not an Arse type of player.

Youth players tend to bring in ludicrously low fees if they're not established, though.
You'd have to butcher the whole academy to buy one half-decent defender.
    Not worth it.

    Denilson was a holding player?
I suppose you'll be telling me that Almunia's a goalkeeper, next.
