He may or may not be better than Wilko or O'Leary. We'll never know simply because they managed under a different set of circumstances. Wilko didn't have to drag us out of the third tier of English football on a shoestring budget. O'Leary inherited a bunch of talented youngsters and supplemented them with a Kings Ransom, hardly an incredible achievement. O'Leary wouldn't be capable of doing what Grayson has done so far, we all know that, but one thing is for sure Grayson would have done better than O'Leary in his circumstances
O'Leary inherited a great young squad of players who would have gone on to win honours without much additional spending. O'Leary just saw the £ signs & sunk this club into debt needlessly by signing the likes of Fowler,Keane,Seth Johnson,Bridges etc. He never addressed the left back issue where maybe someone like John Aarne Risse would have been the answer for maybe half of what Johnson cost. The only signing he made who improved the team was Viduka. For me O'Leary is just as much to blame for our fall from grace as Ridsdale. Too extravagant, wasting money on inferior players than the ones he inherited. David O'Leary good manger? No,nowhere near.
Agree about Olearys poor signings. However he was in no way responsible for our financial meltdown. That end of things is totally the responsibility of the chairman at the time ie risdale. Any manager will continue to buy if thrown stupid money
