And thanks to you both. The team at Waterstones in Hull have been a pleasure to deal with, and they are so keen to do what they can for any local interest book. I know I'm not alone in thinking that way too. I love book shops, and the dealing with Waterstones and the Cut-Price Bookstore in Beverley in relation to The Decade has only made me love them even more.
The young lady said it's selling well. I picked it up this morning and started reading when I got home, I missed dinner and had a late tea. Excellent read Richard, bringing back a hell of a lot of memories.
Thanks rovertiger. Apparently it's been their second biggest seller of the past few weeks, behind A Pinch of Nom, whatever the **** that is (actually, it's Watersones' biggest selling non-fiction paperback of all time, it seems, in spite of its stupid name). Glad you're enjoying it anyway. It's still selling well on Amazon too. I had initially targeted 1000 sales, and we're well on the way to that.
Almost finished it now and some painful memories returning. Selling the more than adequate Sam Ricketts for £2m .........selling Michael Turner for £5m cash, some shocking transfer business there (just like 2 years ago with Robbo and Maguire) . Duffen gets sacked as the cracks appear in the consortium and David Burns reveals he was distinctly unimpressed with Duffen 'all fur coat and no knickers'. With Duffen gone, Phil Brown's big ally is gone, and Phil starts to feel the strain... We were up for sale in May 2009 ! Clearly the financial situation was far worse and far earlier than most people knew. Adam Pearson says: "What they did wrong was gamble on subsequent deals in the Premier League that then risked the club, predominantly the Bullard deal". Whether that means the fee paid to Fulham, the fact that he got crocked or the fact that his misnegotiated contract meant the more games he played, the more his salary incrementally increased. I seem to remember that the banking crash of 2008 meant that the consortium's property portfolio was badly impacted and guess how they then made up the shortfall? So there was no medium term plan, no way was there a long term plan either - just sell ASAP to get some cash to prop up their ailing portfolio Or at least that's how I see it ten years on... .
I can remember watching a match with an ex many moons ago..... She was not into football.....the ball went out for a throw in and she proudly exclaimed "off side!!!" I looked at her bemused.....she said "well the balls gone out off the side, isnt that off side?"
My dad took my mother to a football match. Once. She wanted to know hey they went off at half time and then came out and kicked the other way. A similar lack of understanding about these things at cricket ended him taking her there as well. Don’t think she would have understood how someone not the captain had knocked up a good score and played a captain’s innings but the captain had not played one during his being caught behind for a duck.
Hi Mr Bob. It's been out a couple of months now (Amazon, Waterstones Hull, Cut-Price Bookstore Beverley, Dove House shops), and the independent nature of it means there's no audio book planed I'm afraid. Just print and Kindle.
Not yet. I spent my first free weekend in ages electrocuting myself on a lawnmower. So I'm taking a break from household duties for a while.
The way things are going, that's just asking for a shed fire. I'm working on LazyLawn being the answer.
Just a quick note to say that as part of the launch events for The Decade, The Hull City Southern Supporters will be hosting a night with Peter Taylor in London on Thursday July 4th. Any City fans will be welcome to attend. Peter is still very passionate about Hull City, and in the flesh is very different to how he was often perceived, based on his media profile when he was City's manager. The rebuilding of the squad and back-to-back promotions were fantastic times, and it should be a wonderful evening reliving those times. The time will probably be 7pm and the venue is still to be confirmed.
Finished it and I can't recommend it highly enough, excellent read Richard, thank you for all you put into it.
